Kitchen help
Ok so I'm trying to cook my first "public" rom I have some great files to start out with "Thanks to you know who you are" But I'm having a brain fart this is not my first rom I've cooked quite a few practice roms but for some reason I can not figure out how to get my own sys files and oem files into the kitchen each time I try replacing them I get all types of weird errors? Whats the secret here? I've been READING READING READING so much so my eyes are red and raw so please dont ask me to do more reading. I know I'm making some silly little mistake overlooking something small
HELP please! I'm trying to use Caulkins 1.3.1 kitchen or even 1.4 which has no oems etc Or should I be using another kitchen? I've tried just basic Raphael but again unless I rip the rom I can't use it with the files I have |

Your answer lays somewhere with the files on your computer.... Pretty vaugue huh? Give detail and we will help. No detail means no help. Kitchens are extermely complex and not to be taken light heartedly. Are you sure you dont want to use a pre made kitchen? what are you trying to accomplish? Im nopt trying to discourage you, I just want you to know there are alternatives and I also need to know what you are trying to complish. I will always help the best i Can. |
Re: Kitchen help

I've downloading and unpacked Caukins 1.4 and tried to put in my own oems and sys file everything seems to be fine until I try to cook the rom what seems to be right at the end of BuildOs's thing it errors out with "External component has thrown an exception." So I then downloaded the Basic Raphael Kitchen which is pretty empty I guess you would say what I did was followed the directions in a tut I found to take an already cooked rom and run Prepit.exe on it and if I do that I"m able to recook it using the kitchen as is but if I try changing the sys folder or oem folder I again get the same error? What I am trying to accomplish is to build upon a pre-excisting rom cooking in all updated os and htc apps etc. I'm running Windows Vista Ulitimate full admin privliages I can cook roms with a full kitchen using whatever is already packed in no errors. I hope that is enough info for you to help me out. Thanks for your time |

Hmmmm... Do this... I forget what it means but take a screen shot of the error and the build OS screen next to it. I need to see the error and the bottom of build OS so I know where the project is at when error. My first guess is you have a corrputed XIP????? Nah, because you can build stock configs right? |

Re: Kitchen help
sys and rom folders are butt partners. they can not be singled out. the sys file in one kitchen needs to go with the rom folder in that same kitchen....

Ummmm.... Ahhhh... Ummm.... Ahhhhh.... Since when man? Thats not so... They have to be compatible but not the same ones. Not saying thats NOT the issue here but needed to correct your statement. have you ever heard of Hybrid ROM's? Thats when the chefs purposely mismatch ROM and SYS folders to create a hybrid ROM. Dont ask why because I dont know! |

It may be corrupted or have some junk in it. Start delecting OEM's or start looking at each INITFLASH.TXT This is of couse assuming you have a complete "tool's" folder. |
Re: Kitchen help
I've tried to explain to him in Calcu's thread. He is trying to use Calcu's 1.4 kitchen with someone elses rom broken down for the base. He is basically just trying to slam that base into Calcu's kitchen. He doesn't know how to make the two work together.

OP if you are doing what I think you are doing then you are wasting your time. This could be an ALL YEAR AFFAIR. I cant help with that. You need to search for XIP Porting ACE: Tell me if I am in the wrong line of T/Sing here? Is it the problem I think? Noobishness? Not realizing differnt base payloads dont work correctly with others... Like maybe he borke this down with a full size payload instead of just XIP and he needs vice-versa????? IE Dog guy style vs HTC Project style (for lack of better words?) |

I gave up on that quest. I was not trying to just SLAM I am trying to LEARN obviously there is a proper way to do all this. Finding this information is the hard part, tuts are all written for specific kitchens, roms, peoples. personal out takes and experiance. Nothing really makes it to the point sense. I'll figure it out. Instead of pointing out what I am doing wrong why not explain to me how to do it right? It can't be all that hard to explain to me what I am missing in caulks kitchen can it? I have a base rom and if that doesnt work I have A complete sys folder xip os payload and oem folder Now people build kitchens all day right? I have succesfully gotten rices kitchen to work. I was able to replace the sys folder with the one I have and update some oems. What would I look for in that Init file to find out which one is bad? I would rather have the advance features afforded me with Caulks 1.4 and now I just need to know how to name the rom so when its flashing it doesnt say generic 1.0.3 Thanks for the help If no one wants to help me out does anyone want to make the kitchen for me and I'll pay you? |

Do this.... Look in the MR folders of all th ROM folders you have. Tell me if they are all EXACTLY the same size or not. Just tell me what you see and I will try to explain. The reason people dont want to help any further is very very simple. Read my post a couple above this... Its not easy man. You may need to port XIP's over. You mismathcing payload files. If it was that easy dont you think you woud have figure dit out by now? Dude, what you are trying to do is best left for people well above MY level. IT however can be done..... I dont even bother to try as you are re-inveintg a wheel that may not even fit the car to begin with. But LIke I said, I understand your thirst for knowledge. I didint get to be me without trial and error. My ROM's are great IMHO. But they just didint happen! I did what you are doing. Exactly what you are doing. I'll help but not sure if I can. |

As for telling you what the files say I deleted Everything except rices kitchen so as not to have to much clutter I was starting to get confused downloading and reading too much I think But I have SUCCESFULLY cooked a rom using Riceskitchen with the sys folder I have. everything works just fine only thing is how do I name the rom? I think whats left is to figure out all the little tweaks such as booting with my theme not the default etc But back on track I MUST get this Caulks kitchen going all those features in the kitchen would surely make my roms that much better? I have the OS and oems I wish to use to cook with with an empty kitchen what am I missing? thats the big question the rest I'm sure I can trial and error etc.. Thanks for all your understanding and patients |

Look in the ROM(edited for spelling) folders of all the ROM folders you have. Tell me if they are all EXACTLY the same size or not. Just tell me what you see and I will try to explain. More than likely your XIP's are not sown up in the same fashion. I had this same problem too. Same error message as well. Just rememberd that when Ace made his point. But you figured that out so moving on. Ok, I am lost. Its late so bear with me.... I just released a HOT VZW ROM and my brain was cooked in the process... So, please fill in the blanks and it will be easier for me OK? 1. SYS folder from what Kit? 2. ROM folder form what kit? 3. OEM Folder from what kit? 4. Objectives to doing what you are doing? Like I said I am all over the place today so bear with me. More than likely I have already "been there done that" and although I may not have an answer to make it work I can tell you why it doesnt work. The rest will be up to you. EDIT: I just got your PM. Lets keep it there instead MODS: Close this sucker DOWN! we will handle in PM |

Re: Kitchen help
It's an idea fraught with peril to mix folders between old style kitchens. I don't recommend it unless the kitchens are practically stock.

I got him on my kit with his desired files. He was missing little things... Like ya know... The ROM folder... Nuttin important ;c) GG, Im about to head over to PPCK pretty soon and start picking your brain. I have a plan of a[pproach I am drafting up in my head on how to get my work integrated in to the PPC Kitchen. At first I want to start of like No2Chem and create something sorta kinda stand alone but less stand alone than his... It will make sens when I explain it but ofr now, I just want you to know I took your offer serious about getting help with integration..... My ROM is popular amongst the targeted users. Imagein what we coudl do if we pooled resources together ;c) Scary what we could accomplish |
