PPC 6850 on verizon?

Anyone have an Alltel 6850 working on Verizon network?

I just ordered one off ebay I'm going to reactivate my verizon contract with a non-gimped phone hopefully... I see lots of info related to sprint version on verizon but nothing specifically for Alltel... I would imagine the PRL & PRI stuff is different so I wasn't quite sure what my steps would be.

Apologies if this is posted somewhere... couldn't find anything in search.

Thanks!

just follow the steps for the sprint to verizon one and you should be good, the prl won't work tho

Ya I guess that's what I'm getting at.. need a hacked PRL I assume? Only one posted is for sprint -> vzw that I can see.

I am running the Alltel Pro on Verizon.

The process is pretty much the same with few differences.

You won't have to worry about the MSL, its already 000000 just like vzw uses.

If you want to get rid of the roaming triangle then the best (permanent) solution is to hit all 3 important areas. PRI, PRL, and ERI

You will of course already be loading the PRL so you can get the phone activated with *228 option 3.

Load the verizon PRI.

Load the verizon ERI.

Do all those and you will be able to use the natural, unaltered PRL straight from vzw (so you can update OTA with *228 and not have to worry). Also your ERI banner will work properly displaying "Verizon Wireless" or "Extended Network" just as any native vzw phone would.

One note of caution: Get all the modding done BEFORE you get the phone on your account (with *228 ) one thing I have noticed is that doing *228 option 1 will kill the keys needed for data service along with reverting the dun setting to MDN@alltel.com (instead of MDN@vzw3g.com) though *228 option 2 (to update PRL only) should be fine.

If you kill your data connection (easy to do when messing with ROMS in this case) you will have to either have tech support reset your DMU (not something you dont want to do a lot) or swap another ESN on to your account then put your Touch Pro back on.

Hope this helps!

PS. I'm still expirementing with some things and might be writing up a post on my experiences with converting my Alltel phone once I figure out some more stuff.

I did tons of reading here and I guess I'm just confused on one part.. how the heck do you get hte alltel ESN into verizon's db so it will get activated? That seems to be my struggle and I keep seeing conflicting posts in the sprint on verizon network thread...

I have a new alltel phone and I want to port my number back to verizon but activate this one on it.. they're telling me I need to send the phone in that's the only way I can get it activated... I'm confused how people are getting sprint/alltel phones to work on verizon if the ESN isn't in verizon's database?

I'm clearly missing something here... I did all the steps in that thread and if I do *228 it says welcome to verizon bla bla bla but it basically gives the finger when I try to activate.. well duh.. verizon has to have the ESN in their db.... what am I missing?!

call them back....tell them you bought the phone from a third party and that party already has it provisioned for VZW and you need them to activate the ESN so you can do over the air programming

Wow... I've been on the phone for hours and in the stores for hours... carting around my shiney alltel touch pro but no one wanted to help lol.

I finally re-read over things and apparently *228 option 3 adds the esn because it just worked... have phone and txt but still having problems getting the data to work.

was working at one time but stopped after I did another *228 and haven't been able to get it workin since. I had a VERY complicated situation though.. ported to att, ported back to verizon then they told me i had to activate another phone... so I went and bought a storm to get activated.... and then I was able to do *228 option 3....

I tried the storm for a few hours and got pissy annoyed... I *NEED* to get this thing working or I'm goin to lose my damn mind with all this juggling around. lol

anyways... hopefully I can get verizon to reset my DMU keys tomorrow? Not exactly sure what that is but hopefully it works? lol...

Other than that, I still need a PRL that doesn't force me to have triangle... or was it PRL... eh I'm tired... tomorrow is another day :(

First, try my PRI in the VZW GPS thread. If that still gives you a triangle AFTER dialing *22899 I will commence recoding a PRI like I pm'd you about

yup that's one of the things I tried and it still gives roaming... there is actually no hacked PRI that works at the moment with this phone...

I guess I was under the impression if I updated the PRL and PRI to verizon's it would work just like a verizon phone but I guess not :(

I couldn't honestly care less about the gps at this point I just want to get my data working. Just wokeup so time to start digging again...

Re: PPC 6850 on verizon?

ook so I finaly got everything working.. evdo and such but it still says I'm roaming.. and I'm thinking that is causing problems with my activesync exchange.... it won't sync over cell for some reason... I have the regular unlimited 29.99 plan with vzw which I had before and I know activesync worked so I'm THINKING it has to do with the fact that the phone thinks I'm roaming and won't do an update, regardless of me telling it to anyways.

sooooo... I guess now at this point I just need a hacked PRL to get rid of the roaming? Very strange though, because I'm using verizon's most up to date PRL (51190) and PRI (1.46_002)...

hmmm
