Not using Nex's rom? Then what are you using?

I put nex's rom on mine an it's ok. I love a bunch of the apps included. However there are a lot of qwerks that are almost deal breakers for me.

Just wondering what rom you're using on your VZW phone and what you think about it. (hopefully in comparisson to Nex's.)

I'm potentially looking to switch it up.

I used both nex's and scott's, but in the end I just used the kitchen to build my own...

so if your phone is unlocked, you just used the kitchen from ppckitchen?

I havent made my own ROM for a while, can you use Build OS with the Touch Pro? That was easy to use.

I used Scott's ROM info to build my own with the eRice kitchen. I'll probably use the same method on the full kitchen in the future.

I tried to do this, but Verizon isn't listed as a carrier for the Raphael kitchen. How do I shove all the Verizon settings into my phone? Do I risk screwing it up if I use the AT&T profile?

Choose the Herman not the Raphael...The Herman is the CDMA TP the Raphael is the GSM version

You're getting big, sloppy, wet, manlove kisses if this works.

Erm... on second thought, would you settle for a "Thanks"?

Thats what Im doing obivoulsy. I am using the eRice Kitchen with my split OEM pack from the stock VZW ROM to create a basic OEM style kitchen

This is sanctioned by eRice in his thread and posted to my website.... www.scottcrosler.com

Check it out. A couple minor quirks with the ROM such as the ROM doesnt have VC but the kitchen does. Nothing major reported so far after three days.

Overal I think its fairly solid and notably quicker than the stock ROM but yet retains the 100% stock look and feel. Others have mixed opinions stating they dont see the speed gains. I posted more specific in my thread on the spesd such as where you will see gains, etc. I plan on doing a full blown comparison to the device before and after the Stock ROM to Custom ROM conversion. That will also be this weekend though.

Anyways, thats my two cents!

Lets make our device awesome! Keep sharing idea's!

This thread was a good start to organizing VZW ROM's! Great Job OP! Lets keep the thread going!

Scott, I like where this is going.

Now someone will hopefully figure out how to write a GPS driver, and we'll be golden.

Granted yes, but drivers COULD be rewritten sorta like Skywing did for the 6800/6900. He would just need to make some slight modifications to his code I believe.

But to be honest with you removing the PRI crippling is indeed the best way. So in actuallity this can be solved two ways, not just one. If VZ NAv works others can too!

One thing we are forggeting... VZW is BIG. They have released the SDK for the crippled drivers to the public. The programs like Google and Live Search just need to make a VZW only version or combine the coding in as it will be the same on all VZW devices going forward.

I theorize in the near future this will start happening. This is just an educated guess. Do you really think GOOGLE and MICROSOFT will not somehow try to get there names on our phones with GPS? VZW is big, thats a HUGE loss to there customer base in the US. I doubt we are just going to be "forgotten."

Secondly, how do we know other carriers will not start this crap once they see VZW does make money off it? The bootom line to any company regardless of what the service is... M O N E Y !

These are just my ramblings... Sorry.... I just hate VZW because of all this GPS crap.

Dont worry, I did the same thing too. Spent an entiure day trying to figure out why only At&T showed up. Then switched to the eRice kitchen and ported over the VZW OEM folder. THEN someone told me that I was using the wrong device! Hahaha. Oh well. Good way to learn!

See two posts behind this one for my thoughts on that ;c)

But yes, we all woudl like FREE GPS. Im dying for it. I have VZ Nav but its all we got right now.

If VZ Nav updated in realtime like Tom Tom did I would keep it.... But it doesnt. Its like every 5 seconds it moves your car on the map. Wonder if there is a reg hack for that or if it is hard coded.

Re: Not using Nex's rom? Then what are you using?

HELP PLEASE...I'm new at building. I flashed Nex's Rom and all went smoothe. I built my own with PPCKitchen. This is what I did...Built Rom, RUU ran to 100% and phone booted...back into Nex's Rom!?!?!? Did I do something wrong? I even tried again this time pressing the 'Upload to Phone' and the same thing (still Nex's Rom). Can someone please help???

EDIT...Never mind. I found the NBH file that was created and flashed just like I flashed Nex's Rom. Phone booting now, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Not using Nex's rom? Then what are you using?

Ok, so I used PPCKitchen (BuildOS) and created a ROM. Loaded it to my phone and everything seemed fine. Did *228 and when the phone reset it got stuck on the initial boot up screen (where it shows radio version etc). Will try it again after awhile. Any suggestions?
