How to brick my phone

It is my understanding:

The spl is a boot partition much like the BIOS is to a PC?
THe spl boots, looks for at the OS ROM, and boots it.

I can make a very bad OS ROM, flash to the phone, and the worst thing that will happen is that it won't work?

So, if the bootloader partition is okay, the phone is not bricked?

Sorry for the newbie questions, I do a lot of work with servers on linux, VMWare, and 2008, but this stuff is a different, albeit fun, animal!

well most of the time when you make a new rom it has nothing to do with the spl. so if you make a bad rom and flash it, all you need to do to recover from that is to flash a good rom on there. as long as you don't flash a rom for a diffrent device you should be fine. they only roms that have spls in there are usually the froms from HTC.

i did the same thing i was working on my new rom and now im at the sprint store getting a replacement. good thing i backed up my internal storage on my PC... well is the price we cooks take to build better ROMs for everyone to enjoy... Besides That is why i have TEP on my account

You want to brick it or don't want to? if you only flash roms you are pretty safe. If you flash the spl, you're still mostly safe unless you go hacking away at it. And chances are there is a recovery mode even if you FF the entire spl (we are still working on this). If you WANT a brick (for purposes I wont guess at) you should simply nuke it for 2 seconds with battery OUT..

Water damage not covered or has a deductible :P

If your cheap and don't want to pay $50 for a new phone gotta somehow make it malfunction without obvious damage to the device (I did with reg edits on mine, made the keyboard not work, haha)

I THINK(<--important word here) the only rom that can brick your phone are corrupt radio roms. If you were to grab a radio rom off that thread and take a hex editor to it I'm thinking you would have a 99% chance of bricking your phone and a 1% chance of getting a job writing radios for telus ^^. I remeber when I first got my phone I was wondering the same thing and being a telus customer that knows I can get whatever I wanted from them I tried popping the gsm spl on their, phone wouldn't take the flash, kept stopping saying "this software wont work on your device or something", tried flashing gsm roms etc and all of the software was smrt enough that it just wouldn't flash onto a cdma phone, but I'm sure you could trick it and brick it somehow if you wanted to
