Your phone won't nuke if you don't, but the idea is to make sure there are no lastting bits of a previous rom still in your phone. A hard reset once or twice helps to make sure. Basically....it can't hurt.

Re: [11/23] JD's ROM

I can confirm flash 8 stuff is working, Youtube videos load, play for 30 seconds then pause for about 10 seconds then play again. This is with latest JD rom flashed and nothing else installed. First thing I did was check flash on opera mobile. Also, I doube that its a buffering issue as youtube shows that its buffered it quite far ahead, it actually seems like the processor of the phone is tied up, then gets untied and plays again. Opera is entirely frozen (can't click on the button on the lower right because Opera is frozen). As soon as it unfreezes the window pops up for the lower right icon that was clicked.

Opera is build # 2649 in this ROM.

To me this seems to be the fastest and most responsive yet lol, I'm keeping this one for a while unless a major and I mean major bug pops up. Great job JD =D>

Re: [11/23] JD's ROM

Flashed this rom last night. It has none of the bugs I have experienced with the other custom roms Ive tried, such as:
  • Soft keyboard causing issues with screen taps (for example, I would tpye "Hello, how are you today?" If I then tried to close the soft keyboard, it would type an ectra Y at the end, then close. It would do this for any letter or button I typed last. VERY annoying.
  • All Manilla tabs working with no tweaking needed.
  • When opening an application, then opening keyboard, application stays on top, rather than the landscape manilla coming up and making me select the program from the task manager.
  • Text messages are clearing the unread count when I read them, rather than me having to manually clear the count every time.
JD...this is an awesome ROM...very fast and very stable with no glitches that I have found.

Many, many thanks!

Why is it that "noobs" get a new phone, don't bother to really use that phone and get a true feel for it BEFORE immediatly installling a custom rom without any idea as to how the stock one functioned. It makes no sense to me.....

This is not my first phone. I bought this thing the day it came out and as a hobby planned to tinker with it. I am a noob when it comes to customizing phones, but not so much a noob with computers. I did not like the bloatware that I get with each new phone. I want a phone that is custom. Which is probably why a "noob" would go to these forums to learn how to customize their stock phones. I could care less about getting familiar with the crap that Sprint installs and does not allow me to uninstall.

I could not shake that problem.. hard reset, and did a re-flash.

Re: [11/23] JD's ROM

This is off topic but has anyone been able to figure how to enable the ability to figure out what the area code of the number is when dialing the first three numbers. I have been all over the registry trying to see if i could find it, all I found was a folder with all the area codes. Although in my search I tweaked some thing things to my liking which was really cool like 5 reception bars instead of 7. You guys should take a look in the registry there is many many cool things there just be careful. Also I did search, if anyone finds anything relating to a way of enabling the area code thing plz post it.

JD, how are you changing the ROM name on the main boot screen? The one in red text? I've been trying to figure that out and can't find where to change it. Can you PM me or just let me know? I'd appreciate it.

if this is the case what would be the huge diff between JD's custom ROM and Goodthings2life sprint cleanup? I am curious to know and any knowledge for me in this area is extremely helpful

I'm almost certain you have to edit nk.exe for that but I haven't figured it out yet myself

lol sorry, i went to youtube.com in IE like i did in the other browser, and it told me that "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player."

on your last version, it would at least start to load the video lol.

sorry for being so unspecific :-p

The other build had IE6 the new updated one thats why flash worked with that one. Flash works just fine in opera 9.5

We all have to be wary of the placebo affect, especially when we all flash ROM's so often with our shiny new toy. Having said that, placebo or no, this ROM absolutely flies!!!

Couple this with the fact that it appears to have a standard PP, this is a real smoker!

Great job and thanks JD.

I installed my own copy of flashlite....and while I still cant get it to work in IE, it IS working in opera. I am able to watch youtube AND hulu in opera.

I plan on releasing a beta version of my rom "jdrom8" which has some very moderate changes to its internal design - the rules are if you use it and you wanna post issues with it or comments about it I need you to state that you are using the beta and NO MIRRORING : because I want to keep track of how many times it is downloaded so look for it later in the day or tonight if I have time to upload it

Hey guys, I really like this latest ROM better than any I've tried so far. The only thing I'd like to change is the yellow coloring. Does anyone know of a program that will allow me to change the yellow selection highlight to a different color (green), and the color of the numbers it shows (new texts, emails, etc.) on TF3D?

I've skipped the last couple of JD roms. How's battery life in the latest one? I'm using y4j 4.0 but I think I wanna go back to the sprint manilla.
