If you have a wimax.img of non-trivial size (like a few megs), then you're 4G keys are (very probably) backed up.

If you want to make sure your phone has good keys (and don't have 4G service to connect to right now), google "android evo grep rsa keys" or words to that effect, and you'll find a dozen threads showing you how to use grep in a shell (either using adb, or your favorite shell app) to test to make sure that your Wimax keys are intact.

If like me you are worried because you did your EVO rooting during the period late last year when Unrevoked3 / ClockworkMod were borked because of the Sprint OTA update ... I think you'll only have lost your keys if you did a nandroid back AND restore using the broken ClockworkMod recovery, because it didn't properly backup wimax.img.

My understanding is that the latest ClockworkMod version are fixed, and that AmonRa never had that problem.

However, I have done a manual backup of my keys, which I've saved away in my Dropbox and on a couple of local PC's ... just in case!

To answer your original question about kernels, i was using SBC-htc-15, but as of yesterday decided to back out to the stock kernel that Sprint Lovers comes with, by doing an update to the latest SL ROM, and not re-applying the SBC kernel afterwards. Think I'll wait and see how all this "trickle charging blows up batteries" discussion pans out before re-applying a kernel that uses it.

Well I just got my phone last week and flashed using unrevoked3 so I think im ok. Just wanted to check because I rooted before I backed up. I will check on that program u suggested. Also I tried to flash the other kernel but got a error, so not sure what I should do. But my battery life sucks.

1. how can you remove the -"Fly In & Fly out" animations?

2. Might not can help me with this one but I was wondering how can I lock the android phone overall? I;m going to the military soon and want to lock it to the core incase it get stolen somehow. I know of simply going to options to lock the screen but the around to that is installing another rom........ but during recovery mode when installling a new rom I seen something about "Lock" so maybe you could tell me how I could lock the phone overall. I'll also disable UBS connections too so they can't connect it to the computer.

Thanks for the response. I believe it was another of your posts I read that had me trying out the SBC-HTC-15 kernel.

I'm new to Android and EVO, and have gone through the usual learning curve of getting rooted, and trying every which way to improve battery life. After a month of flailing around, I basically started form scratch about a week ago.

I'm now getting 20+ hours of "light to moderate" usage before hitting the 20% threshhold. This is just by using the latest SL ROM, UltimateJuice, SetCPU 'on demand', the usual common sense settings (see any "Top XX EVO Power Saving Tips" list!), as sparing as I can be with sync'ing, and just letting UltimateJuice do it's thing.

My goal is 24 hours before hitting 20%.

The extra couple of hours are going to have to come from either turning UltimateJuice off and seeing if I can do a better job of managing power myself (using Tasker, etc), and/or from kernel based approaches.

I think what I'd like to try first is a kernel with a 'smartass' governor, with and without HAVS. That should be fairly simple to test, to see which kernel / governer wins.

Do you have any recommendations for a kernel to try?

Oh, and last noob question ... am I correct that HAVS is nothing to do with the trickle charging kernel mods? That HAVS is to do with scaling the voltage going to the CPU at various clock rates, and the trickle charging stuff is to do with keeping the charge going after the battery hits 100%.

Well, if you got as far as being rooted and running the Sprint Lovers ROM, then you must have either an older phone, or you got Unrevoked3 / ClockworkMod after they fixed it for the newer EVO's. So you should be OK.

I would still recommend taking a 'last resort' backup, anyway. There's a good guide here:

Good way to backup WiMax RSA keys. Works before Rooting, and on stock OEM Roms. - xda-developers

... about half way down the first post is the 'already rooted' method. I've also copied the resulting file from my sdcard and stored it in several safe places, just in case I ever do brick my phone entirely and something goes wrong with the nandroid restore.

Re you battery woes, don't give up. I just started over with my EVO, after a month of trying all kinds of things, and with a simple, systematic approach am now getting 20+ hours of light to moderate usage.

I'll probably end up documenting my setup, if I can stretch it out to my goal of a reliable 24 hours, with 10% or so left to hibernate with.

I'm using the 12/21 ROM and everything has been fine until tonight. I use the lock/unlock sounds when locking or unlocking the screen. Tonight for some reason the volume on the sounds went almost inaudible. However, when playing the audio file thru Root Explorer it is fine. Ideas??

I heard tale of the hTC Hub coming to EVO. BOS's HD Rom has it but I prefer a fully functioning rom. When and if it ever becomes available I look forward to it being implemented in this rom.

Not sure what would cause that but on the new release I can say the lock and unlock sounds work fine.

Is there such a thing as "system volume" and a way to adjust it??
