I'm having increasing difficulty with Opera Mobile (I believe I'm running 10 beta 3), and while I don't necessarily think it has to do with the ROM, I'm open to suggestions. It's at the point now where, even on wifi, opening a page just results in Opera sitting there for a good 20 seconds not showing any signs of loading before the page pops up. Once the page starts to appear, the speed seems to be consistent with whatever connection I'm using (slowish on 1x, fast on EVDO or wifi), but I can't figure out what's up with the huge delay when clicking links or trying to open pages to begin with.

I do have Mobile installed to internal storage, and I thought maybe it was a caching issue, but clearing the cache from within the app didn't seem to make a difference. I haven't tried updating to the latest version because I've heard that there's a bad input lag problem, but I'll go that route if I need to.

Are there any particular tweaks or settings I should try to improve performance? Any suggestions?

I haven't seen those issues, but you should really start using the Opera release version and not any of the Betas. I found that the ones I was using reminded me of that fairly soon after the full release came out ( a month or two ago?).

FYI to anyone doing this, I've discovered that enabling setvolume causes the volume buttons on the sides not to mute the ringer on incoming calls. I hate the WinMo default volume control, but I'm back on that because of this bug.

For Opera, uninstall the O10 Mobile Beta and try the new Opera MINI. It generates and caches pages in the cloud somewhere and they seem to appear much faster and work better on my TD.

Ditto, I was having the same exact slow down issue with Opera Mobile 10 (release, not beta), so I installed Opera Mini 5, and it's soooooooooooo much faster.

I used to use Mini exclusively, but since 10 started shaping up nicely I switched to that, mostly because it integrated into Windows Mobile better. With the new Opera Mini, is there a way to set it as the default browser (i.e., click a link in an email and have Mini open the page)? That was always my number 1 complaint.

Get a registry editor for your touch pro2.

Next, edit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\: DEFBROWSER (Had to put a space between : and D because it kept making the emoticon :D, but in reality there should not be a space.)

When you choose the : DEFBROWSER there will be options to change some values.

The value that has the file path leading to Opera or PocketIE, whichever is your default, should be changed to the file path that leads to your Opera Mini install.

For example, mine said "Windows\blahblahblah\Opera9.exe or something like that.

It now says "Program Files\Opera Mini\jbed.exe" and the quotes do have to be there or else it won't work.

But like I said, right now it launches Java and then you have to actually choose to launch the Beta from there. I've got no idea how to change that from happening
.

I'm not having a lot of success with this method. For one, the new Opera Mini looks like it's an actual self-contained EXE now rather than jbed, which is nice. But clicking links from Pocket Outlook still open Opera Mobile, and although trying to open a bookmark on the homescreen DOES launch Opera Mini, it doesn't open the URL. So, that's not terribly useful, either.

But on the whole, Mini does seem to be working better.
