Dead Diamond :( UPDATE: magic gnomes!

Hi guys, so my Diamond won't boot up.. I'm devastated.

I can get in to the bootloader just fine which as far as I understand will let me flash a new ROM. That's all fine but I have data on my phone that's not backed up anywhere that I need to recover. Can anyone help me figure out how to get back in please?

When I power it on, it shows the initial "Touch Diamond" screen and then the red text at the bottom with the radio version etc and then just hangs there... :( I really need to get in to back up some data and then I can reflash without any problems.

Please help :(

Get into bootloader and flash back to stock/shipped.

That won't recover any data saved on the internal memory (not the 4gig internal storage) though? I don't care so much about the hardware, I just need the contents on the internal memory saved. Maybe I just don't understand what you mean, but how will flashing to shipped recover that data?

I don't understand... why do you think you won't be able to access the data on your internal storage once you have a working rom?

Because I'm not trying to access the data on the INTERNAL STORAGE. I'm trying to access the built in memory. I need to get in to my pim.vol etc where I have important info saved in my text messages.

Oh... gotcha... I was thrown off by the phrase "internal memory". My bad.

Yeah... I dunno man... I'm pretty sure you have to back that stuff up before the crisis hits. Maybe one of the real gurus can help you out though.

Sorry I was barkin up the wrong tree there.

No worries, you're just trying to help it's all good. I think I may actually be out of luck here.. I'm just so devastated :(

Hey guys, just a thought, but I had my diamond do this once where it locked up on the same screen for no apparent reason. I was driving home and decided to take the battery out for 20 minutes or so, thought I was screwed, then put it back in, and it worked again. not sure if you tried taking the battery out for a while but maybe give it a try. That's my highly amateur advice.:) sorry this happened.

That's good advice... sorry I assumed you had already tried to get it to boot up again 7thson.

Definitely good advice. I've pulled the battery out many time but I've only had it out for up to 5 minutes or so and then I get too anxious and try to get it to boot back up again. I'll try leaving it out for a long time this time around. Appreciate the advice riley :)

Re: Dead Diamond :( Need to get back in to recover data

Pull the battery before you try anything else!! I accidentally flashed a Pro radio to my Diamond and bricked it. I had pictures in internal memory that I did not want to lose. Couldn't enter bootloader or anything. Pulled the battery for 5 minutes, put it back in and voila!!! Got all my stuff back even though I had to flash a new ROM afterwards to get my phone to work. Hope it works for you.

Had the battery out for 20 mins, still no go :(

It just hangs on the initial Touch Diamond screen with the red text at the bottom with version numbers and then doesn't go anywhere ](*,)

sorry to hear that. You can try to go to sprint repair store and ask them to recover the items. I returned one phone to them and they asked me if I wanted my phone backed up before they did the exchange. do you have the sprint shipped rom on there?

I'm running Mighty ROM. If I go in to the repair center, I'm not sure how they can recover anything on the main memory of the phone without it booting up.. I can definitely reflash and get the contents of my 4 gig internal storage recovered myself but it's mostly my text messages that I care about since they have a lot of information that I have no other way of getting.

I appreciate the ideas though, thanks a lot guys!

ive never used mighty rom, so im not sure. but most cooks have your txt msgs and email saved to internal storage in order to save space on the main memory. so if flash a new rom you may be able to recover them. i know mine are stored in internal memory/inbox. they are stored in some weird format (30006432-345b). i dont know how you would get your new flashed phone to recognize them though. but this may just work

Great idea! But i was on an older mightyrom which stored the messages on the main memory :(

Bumping for some Monday morning views and to inspire some brilliance..

I've left the battery out overnight and it has still made no difference whatsoever. If anyone can help me find a way to get access to the files on main memory, I would really really appreciate it.

Thanks.

It's not gonna happen, just give up. Be sure to back up critical documents in the future. Microsoft MyPhone will do it OTA for you.

Yep, I had kinda already given up before I even posted because I knew what it meant, just didn't want to believe it. Oh well, time to reflash.

Speaking of myphone, I find that it takes forever to upload text messages. I had about 20,000 total messages on my phone and it was doing about 2 messages every 5 seconds so obviously it's going to an insane amount of time to upload those. Can you confirm that it does in fact work this slow? Or is it just me?

I've seen a few references to this... MS MyPhone. Can someone post a link that explains what it does and how/if it can be installed?

https://sn1-p3.myphone.microsoft.com...t.po?mkt=en-US

It can be installed over the air on your phone. Just sign in using the link above. It basically is an OTA sync for your phone's contacts, text messages and documents. You can choose to sync whatever you want out of those. It will back them up online on MS's servers and let you recover them later if you need to. Hope that made sense.

Yeah, I found the website that talks about it, but when I signed in, it wanted to put me on a waiting list unless I had a promotional registration code.
I'll try your link.

Thanks anyway... got me to the same website I found and wouldn't let me register.

Why not just store your text messages to internal storage?

Wow... this has been like following one of those news stories about a kid stuck in a well... I couldn't stop watching the progress and feared for the worst, but some part of me had hope, and now I am filled with jubilation.
