New User could use some advice

I am new to this whole ppc thing, so I apologize for posting what I am sure will be some redundant questions. However, I am a little in the dark regarding some of the "techier" stuff in modifying these devices. I am pretty unsatisfied with the overall layout, interface, and customization of the factory software on my HTC touch diamond. I know this is a long list of demands, but I would like mainly to have phone, texting, internet, a gyrator-type software, a better contact list and phonebook, as well as a few other things. I am hoping someone can direct me to some ROM's that are not too complex, this thing eats battery life as it is, and maybe share their experiences.

Cheers!

Read this thread:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=36062
Then start reading the individual threads for the different available roms. All your questions are answered many times over, but it does take some initial reading on your part, as well as some trial and error.

Enjoy.

I have looked at this, but some ROM's seem to lack, at least to me, maybe not experienced users, a list of what applications are included. Also, the screen shots are helpful in selecting a better interface and some lack these. I will continue to read those threads though. By trial and error do you mean that I can easily upload and ROM and replace it once I have installed it on my device if I don't like it?

Thanks, any help is appreciated.

Yes. You can replace and replace and replace to the point of senseless addiction.

Again, all your questions are already answered on this forum. Dig in.

The best way to get started is to read the stickies at the beginning of this forum about how to unlock your device and flashing custom roms. Once you unlock your Diamond, then just pick out one of the custom roms, and try it. You will learn alot simply by "doing", and it will de-mystify all the stuff you have been reading. As the boys have said, read ... read ... read. Your phone will be a like a different animal. Good luck!

Thanks for the pointers. A couple quick questions: I have downloaded some ROM's to my desktop and synced up, are there required or better destinations to open these folders to the device? I am not sure of the paths. I have the RUU uploader and a ROM but want to put them where performance is optimal.

Doesn't really matter where you d/l them to. Just extract the files (un-rar) ... next connect your phone to your PC via usb. Then go into the folder you extracted them to, find the rom update utility (ruu), and double click. Follow the on screen instructions ...

It is easier than people make it sound... This is the easiest way I know how...

Download the new ROM's and/or new Radio to your desktop, you will need winRAR to run it correctly (goolgle winRAR)....
Once winRAR is in your PC. Open the new ROM and click on RomUpdateUtility.Exe; make sure your phone is connected and synced to your PC. RomUpdate will automatically read your phone for connectivity and again follow the instructions, check the boxes and update!!!

Let me know how you do...

P.S. MightyROM 4.16 is as good as it gets...
Radio Telus 1.04 or Sprint 1.11F are also the best options for radio upgrade...
