Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
Is it possible to have more than one rom on your internal storage? Example, I have the latest grooverom 5.060209 on my 4gb. Could i also have the official sprint rom on there and be able to choose which one i want to flash?
|
Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
Yes and no. Only the one that is named DIAMIMG.nbh will be flashed, but you could hold multiple .nbh files on the internal, and just rename whichever you want to flash that time.

Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
Please help this very computer dummy out. I have put the properly renamed file on my root drive of internal storage . I push down volume, power and backspace and it goes to bootloader and sits there . What should I do next ?
thanks |
Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
How do you get it out of bootloader mode if you decide not to flash when you are in the screen asking you if you want to flash?
|
Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
Reset button on back?
|
Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
Thanks. I found out the flash screen gives you an option to cancel and not flash

Re: Flashing a rom from the 4 gig storage
I have a suggestion for the OP.
You may want to change your thread title to: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage This will make it easier for people searching this info to find your thread. Yesterday we had a new thread started in the Upgrade section, because someone searched flashing a radio from the internal storage, and didn't see your thread pop-up. Adding the words Radio and Internal to your thread title will make it show up in more searches for that subject. |

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
I've been able to successfully flash from storage but I come up with an issue several hours later. I use PIM Backup 2.8 to save my contacts and such, flash, then restore. I load a few cabs - nothing fancy - but after a while, the phone slows down to a snails pace. Eventually I can't do anything and if I hit the rest button, it wont even boot. The only solution is a hard reset. I start over, restoring from backup and such only to have the same happen again a few hours later. This happens regardless of which rom I flash (tried mighty6 and AJM). The only solution I found was to flash using a pc the shipped rom followed by a custom. Been fine ever since - even after restoring the backup contacts and cabs. I have to think there's something not quite right with an internal flash. anyone have similar issues or advice?
Edit: I tried flashing without the backup and its been working fine ever since. I'm guessing it was something Backup was doing. I read somewhere to only backup contacts, msg and appointments. tied that and it has worked fine since the restore. Anyone figure out how to unzip a rom on phone? It seems that the roms are a bit too big for the phone as the unzip util first puts the rom into internal memory before copying it over. If your internal space is too small (like when using Mighty6) your up the creek and can't unzip another rom to fix your problem. so it requires doing on a puter. |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
I remember stuff like that happening on the mogul. Try flashing, hard reset, pop the battery, hard reset.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
Hey All,
Found this thread very helpful. I'm a Sprint Diamond user and plan on flashing a ROM for the first time when I get home from work and plan on trying this method. Seems pretty straightforward and don't expect any problems. I do have a few questions, however, that are probably pretty silly but I've never tried it before: 1. When you flash the ROM, do you lose all of your personal info such as email settings, emails, contacts, call history, etc.? 2. If you do lose the above stuff, what's the easiest way to preserve them or to get them back? I know there are backup programs but I've never used one and don't know which is best. This is why I'm hesitant to hard reset my phone as it takes forever to get all my programs back on as well as getting work email settings, etc. back on. 3. Those of you who frequently flash custom ROMs, what is the purpose? Is it to try them out? Are there other benefits? How long does it take to get you back up and running to where you were before after flashing, restoring previous settings, etc.? 4. The main reason I want to try this now is that I have extremely limited program storage space. For some reason, Windows takes up an insane amount of the program storage space (little more than half of the 256mb). By the time I start adding programs on, I've gone from ~100mb down to 10-20mb and notice a drop in performance. I've had to delete some things I'd rather keep on just to be able to put others on. Is this going to help since the ROM is on the internal storage? Is there another way to help free up some of that space? I've looked through my folders and I don't even have much loaded there and still have very little room. Most programs I try to install on the internal storage, but some have to go on the device and I'm simply out of room. TIA for the help and look forward to trying this soon and will report back any success/failures. |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
On my phone so I can't post files.
1. I would use ppcpimbackup to save contacts, texts, call history, emails. http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...4&d=1242156783 2. You can use UC or Sashimi to reinstall everything. I have never used IF. Sashimi is what I use. It's a little complicated at first but once you start reading up it and using it is easy. http://www.winmo-experts.com/viewforum.php?f=7 3. Flash until you find the one You like. Everyone has there own preference. 4. A custom ROM can have a lot of the stock programs removed that will free up that class for you to install what you want. |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
+1 ^
I use pim backup to get my e-mails and texts. besides that I used to do sashimi, but now I have found I only really need like 4 cabs ontop of most roms and to change the background so I do that by hand. Flashing a custom rom will clear out ANYTHING installed into program memory and that does include texts and calls and contacts etc. so unless you sync to an exchange seriously look into ppcpimbackup or sprite backup. ppcpim is free sprite is not. |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
Thanks, guys.
I used ppcpimbackup and worked pretty easily. Didn't save my outlook email settings but that was pretty easy to get back on. Flashing the rom was pretty painfree and was up in running shortly after I found the ROM I liked. Thanks again. |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
no prob, glad everything went smoothly

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
Alright this tutorial given here is great, but I have having one problem I used the Sprint shipped.nph file from my internal hd, and changed the name properly,or so I believe, anyways what is happened the rom is loading very quickly all the way until the end and just stays there, incomplete. If I reset it takes me to the rainbow screen saying I have a "Upgrade ROM code error Please try again" any help on what I can do would be extremely helpful thanks.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
the correct name it should be is diamimg.nbh im not sure what you flashed before, was your phone unlocked? if it wasn't you need to find someone with a computer to flash the shipped version of the rom again. I'm guessing you were trying to relock?

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
I flashed from my internal, energy rom3, and the processw went fine except the rom was acting unstable b/c I didn't flash the stock rom first. So then thats what I attempted to do and it seems like its working but gets stuck at the last possible second, is that common?
|
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
not if your unlocked. you may have a corrupted download.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
u know I think you are 100% right I just used my friends windows computer to load the stock rom and everythings working fine. thanks for the input

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
So I know it says specifically in 1st post that flashing just a radio won't do a hard reset. But, I just wanted to clarify before trying it since I've flashed a new ROM and have all my programs and settings installed and configured just how I like them...
Flashing a radio won't change any of that either, will it? Essentially will be like a soft reset? |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
correct flashing a radio does not wipe the data on your phone.

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
Hello folks. Need some assistance. I need to reflash a Touch Pro via the internal storage option. I have the .nbh file on the root of the internal storage, but I can't get the damn thing to go into the triggered boot loader via power button volume down back button and reset....
Any idea how I can beat this thing into submission? I can't run the updater on the computer, cause the computer is not reconizing the phone anymore AT all......any help would be much appreciated, and the sooner the better. THanks. |

Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
Hi everybody,
really appreciate all the info on the site!! I've been flashing my Rom for quite a while now, without any problems. Now I'm using Kubuntu on my computer so I had to try to flash from internal storage. The problem is that it updates and the bar reaches its end but it still says "Update In Progress" and nothing happens... I've been waiting for maybe 15 minutes after it reaches "full bar", am I to impatient? In the guide it say it should be done in a couple of minutes. I pulled the battery out and restarted the phone and I got the message "Upgrade ROM code error Please try again". I've tried several times now but to no luck and I dont know where to go from here. I saw that markygz got the same error however he succeded to load a new image onto his diamond. How do I do that? If anyone have some inputs I'd be forever grateful! :) Adam |
Re: Flashing a Rom or Radio from the 4 gig internal storage
It sounds like a corrupted download unfortunatly you need to find a computer with windows at this point as there is no other way to get a file into the internal storage.
