My understanding is it is impossible to use a GSM phone on a CDMA network, and vice versa.

Aren't the phones Verizon sells that have SIM cards built with two radios? CMDA and GSM? I know there are different GSM frequency bands and Europe (and most of the rest of the world) are on different bands than here in the US. So, I guess the question would be what frequency bands (GSM) do the phones Verizon sells use?

Not sure if this will help.

there are some phones that have dual radios, but not all of them. They fall into the world phones that verizon sells. The new TP2 is one of them.

on the news clip on the ppcgeeks homepage it states
HSPA/WCDMA:
  • Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
  • Up to 2 Mbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
  • Europe/Asia: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
(Band frequency, HSPA availability, and data speed are operator dependent.)
but i cant find what the verizon tp2 supports as far as gsm goes because this data is from the htc gsm unlocked factory verison i think!! i will post it when i get mine tomorrow around 3!!! i still need the list of gsm phones that can be activated on verizons network! can someone who works high up in verizon please find this info out? it could be the first step of getting a iphone on the network!!!

I don't think it's been done. Even if it is possible, people have a hard enough time getting other cdma carriers handsets to be put on the vzw network. Vzw has made it much harder in the recent past to get things like this done. I have heard it really depends on who you get when you call customer support.

Not sure where you are getting the idea that they use GSM stateside.

They are testing their 4G (LTE) network which will move them away from CDMA.... no GSM now though.

never said they are using gsm state side but at the same time they have bought some gsm towers and gsm based companies i dont see why this wouldnt be possible. or even work on sprint because sprint at one time was gsm based too!!

You're not getting the iPhone on Verizon until a CDMA device is made.

Besides, even if you did, chances are VERY good the data won't work.
