Someone filed an insurance claim without my authorization?
I have been with sprint for about 3 years and EVERYTIME I make a change to my acct, sprint scr*ws it up. I have a touch pro which had the peeling chrome. I found on this forum that talking to tech support that you could get an exchange. I did this back in May and sent the old phone back within a couple days. Now my latest statement shows a $200 non return phone charge and a $100 deductable. I called Sprint and customer service told me I made a claim in JUNE and need to talk to Asurion? So I called and they said I made a claim and that I need to call sprint about the problem. Calling Sprint back I again was told I made a claim and that only "I" can file a claim. Getting no where fast I asked to be transfered to tech support. There I talked with a rep who stated that he had a touch pro and had the same problems. He also stated that he has ROUTINELY filed claims on the customers behalf to get them a new phone. He credited me back $198 and states to call the wharehouse to dispute the other $100. I called the wharehouse 2 days later and was told they can not give me any info and that I need to talk to sprint. I called today and spoke with sprint who three way conferenced to Asurion. The lady at Asurion was very rude and states that actually I made two claims, one in June and one in July. I live in CA and the phones where sent to AZ and NY. I asked why they would send phones to those states if I live in CA. She told me they do not deny ANY claims and will send a phone where ever as long as the caller knows the Pin or password. Well considering my wife does not even know the password I smell something very fishy. How could they not know where these phones are, they have the mailing address and ESN. How could anyone get my password unless it was an inside job. Why was I being charged for one phone when two were sent out? The insurance is going to call tomorrow or Monday and talk with me more about the situation. i assume they are going to do some investigating. It seems crazy that someone would want a hot phone. Has anyone else had claims filed under their acct falsely or knows if they can catch the bastards that did this. I am holding out hope that it was just a typo and that sprint just flled a claim under the wrong acct.

Exi3d had a similar experience. It is an inside job. Someone is filing claims and getting free phones. SCAM
We all need to be careful. |
Re: Someone filed an insurance claim without my authorization?
Exil3d I think you have a typo.
and apparently there are many users having this problem with sprint. I read something stating that you can access someone's account online just by knowing a few things about them. the site demonstrated by asking for someone's phone number (they didn't know the person) and without any other knowledge guessed every single question correctly to access their account. Sprint needs to do something IMHO, before this gets really bad. |
Re: Someone filed an insurance claim without my authorization?
wow that is some bad luck or i have been lucky because assuiron and sprint have been good to me...if its an inside job those phones were sent overnight and delivered the next day (like i have with legitamate claims in the past). they better investigate on sprints behalf not only yours as u are a true victim of crime. theres gotta be esn they can track if someones stupid enough to try and activate a hot phone and whatabout fedex tracking # i usually find my phone on my doorstep so a signature wont help much. ultimately there should be some sorry sprint rep's employee id noted on your account that may be tied to other cases like this that sprint should investigate if this is an inside theft. i suggest keep on contact with sprint until they give u all ur credit back and change ur passcode/passwords immediately. if a sprint rep says hes going to do something to ur acccount like issue a credit or send u a replacement then issue a credit when somethings been charged MAKE SURE U HAVE THEM NOTATE WHAT they said to u and then have them re-read the notes on ur account so its 100% solid, or get it in writing via eCare emailing. let us know how things pan out, if i was u id post this problem on all the other boards especially buzz sprint board and maybe sprintusers.com to make everyone aware

Re: Someone filed an insurance claim without my authorization?
We had the same experience. The person who filed the claim did not even use a name in the account. I am from Puerto Rico and everyone in my family have Spanish or Italian anames. The person who filed the claim was Kevin Smith (talk about generic). I received a call from Sprint asking if I we had made such a claim and when I told them I hadn't she asked me to call asurion with a Claim number. I called assurion and told them what was happening, she asked me for my account PIN.
I told her that I was not about to give my account PIN to anybody who had called me, that even Sprint tells you not to give your PIN to anybody. I had no way of knowing if this was an elaborate plan to get my account poin and do whetever else they could. She went and talked to the supervisor and came back to tell me that she copuld not help me without the PIN. I told her that I was going to give her the claim number, she should be able to start an investigation with that number. That I would not be giving her my PIN and I would not be paying for any Insurance related claim on my account. That I was not the one in need of help since I did not put in a claim, that it was in asurions best interest to simply investigate. I left it at that. Sure enough, a week after the conversation I get the 200.00 charge on my Sprint bill. I went to the store, they saw the evidence, saw that it simply did not add up that a Kevin Skith from NY was able to get a phone for an account from PR. They called asurion and even Sprint had to fight with them over the phone, right in front of me. If I were you, go to the store, the phone representative may not be able to help you, if things get out of hand he can always hang up the phone and claim he got disconnected. in the store however, you can always stay there, through lunch until they get it fixed. If they don't help you, once hunger starts to set in they will become more responsive. In Sprint'ss defense, however, they gave me excelent service, they always have, but not all stores are created equal. Sprint flagged my account with a fraud alert so now it is a bit more difficult to get things done, but I rather go through the hassle of Sprint asking a lot of questions than to have my account stolen again. |

I had the same problem. Three claims and they sent out three phones to different addresses. Problem is, not one of those addresses belonged to me. I did get my account credited for the deductibles that were applied and I have now left Sprint and Asurion.
Before I left our Sprint service in our local area (very rural) which had been decent had been getting worse and worse until we were unable to use our phones. I complained about this and received a call from engineering (Sprint engineering that is) who told me that they found a problem on our local tower but since they didn't have that many users here they had no intention of fixing it. I called CSR and had a long and respectful conversation with them about the many issues. We were able to leave Sprint with no ETF. Unless hell freezes over we will never return to Sprint. No fanboy here! R |
