I want a new line w/out a contract....

Is it possible, if so how???

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

Boost moble, or let your contract expire and just go month to month. Also Sprint now lets you cancle your contract and doesnt charge you the full $200. Its pro-rated so you get charged on how many months you have left.

i don't know about that. i just went through a song and dance over a new replacement vs. refurb and they still charge $200 for early termination.

just buy a phone retail and then you can go month to month without a contract. you can do this will alltel so im just gonna assume that you can do this with sprint.

if you have a place like cricket or i think metro pcs they do like month to month w/o a contract. and if you have a sprint phone or any cdma phone you can have it flashed.

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

Thanks for the replies.... But i meant solely with sprint. My gf wants a phone. Im approved for two lines and i still have my Apache, and Vogue. But i spent two hours on a chat with three Sprint reps, and They just kept saying no matter what i need a two year contract.

@mr8820: they told me if my gf needed a deposit before that if i wanted to transfer the line to her she would still need to pay the deposit.

any contracts that were signed i believe back in November are now under the new prorated contract. all others still signed their original agreement and are bound by the $200 cancellation fee.

you could do this, but if it is a new line then you will have to sign a contract no matter what.

basically your best bet is to just sign a contract. because, when you sign a contract you get a huge discount on the phones that in the end if you cancel is just like giving them that discount back. for example: blackberry 8330 is $579 retail. if you sign a contract you get it for $49 bucks... i mean hell. you just made your money if you end up cancelling your contract. hope this helps in any way.

Well, i guess i could get her a Pre then, if i MUST sign a contract. I was hoping to hear from someone who works at Sprint though.

Its free to change your plan. Ask a Sprint rep if you change to a family plan if that would allow you to add her to your existing plan? With the family plan isnt it like $10 extra for each phone after 2 phones are hooked up to the plan. So theoreticly you would change your plan to a family plan with similar specs as your current plan, then add your GF or whatever she is and in doing so you dont add any additional time on to your plan. Not sure if that would work but I think you can add a line to family plan at anytime without extending contract. So in theory if all my info is correct that would work. They get more money you dont get any extended time bam everyones happy.

if you signed your contract since November of 08 its prorated, if its from before that, they hold you to the full 200$.

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

No, NO, NO, All contracts are subject to prorated EFTs... its federally mandated for EFTs to be (previous and current) prorated...

also, why not buy a phone and flash to Metro? if u do a winmo phone, you can get MMS and web to work just fine, even though theyll tell you it wont work..... still would have to pay retail though..

and the guy that suggested adding a line, that number remains active for a 2yr contract just so ya know... i have 4lines, all on a shared plan, if i tried to cancel one(not the master line), i most certainly would be charged a prorated EFT for cancellation.... every line its own time length contract......thats why you get rebates at different times for different lines... if it was all connected, youd get all your rebates at the same time... we know thats not the case though..

I would look into that, thats how it works in PA, Cali and a few other have different rules. ETFs are not mandated by anything except the terms of the agreement the customer signs. Sprint didnt change because the government mandated it, they changed because that was the way the market was going. One of the biggest complaints about cell phone carriers is ETFs, and Sprint has been on the bad side of customer satisfaction for a long time.

I was told our sprint demo lines required a contract now, even though we're still expected to pay retail for the phone

each line on the family plan requires a contract of its own so while his single line contact wouldn't be extended the new line added to the account would have a new 2-year.

Negrito, in the end with Sprint there isn't a way around 2 years when you're activating a new line, even if you pay full price for the phone. My advice would be to bite the bullet, get a discount on a new phone and in 2 years let it go month to month

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

I have spoken with three differnt managers. There is no way to activate a new line with out a contract. Which i think is complete b.s. I have had a Sprint account for 10 years, most of them without a contract. I doubt im going to change. I just want the option to, without penalty. If you cant fulfill my needs as a provider why should i be punished for chosing another provider who can better accomodate my needs?

just my .02

at the same time im pretty sure at&t and i would assume verizon have the same requirement, your only way around it is prepaid or one of the regional carriers. and yeah i think its bull, if youre willing to provide your own equipment you should be allowed to activate without the agreement, there really is no reason why they can't have that arrangement

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

T-Mobile will let you get a line without a contract. You just have to qualify (credit) for post-paid service and shell out an extra $10 per month...

Negrito 06-27-2009 05:42 PM

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

If i ever get a chance to buy a Touch HD then that tmobile thing sounds cool, but i would still keep my line with sprint. I have the the best plan, and dont want to lose it. hopefully my unlimited data will encompass wimax when that gets rolled out.

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

at one point last year there was a no contract plan offered in teh sprint sales brochures. IIRC it was either 49.99 or 59.99 but you only got 200 anytime minutes 1000 n&w minutes with n&w starting at 9.. i havent seen it in the brochures in a while but it might be in the computers somewhere.

oh and you had to pay unactivated prices for the phone.

chanced are they dropped it when the power pack plans went away though.

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

ok, where there's a will there's a way.. :)
I don't have any personal experience with this, but you can try to take over someone's plan, maybe someone here upgrading to a pre? I know i've seen sero plans offered up for sale. I don't think you have to have a fam plan, as long as you qualify for 2 lines. I think the trick is the other person has to qualify too, otherwise they would have to do a simple change of plans. or of course if they were just going to swich carriers.
you can do a # change for free.

another thought would be to give liberty wireless a call, maybe you'll get lucky and they'll accept the esn. (they resell sprint service on prepaid)

Re: I want a new line w/out a contract....

Hey I'm a Sprint rep. When normal consumer plans I don't think I've ever seen a new MDN become active without a contract. There was a basic month-to-month plan offered before the simply everythings came out. The coding may still be in the system, but I doubt any rep will activate it. You mentioned that you have a plan with the unlimited vision, text, and whatnot. When wimax roles out, I highly doubt those socs will still work. The phones that work with wimax will most likely require the unlimited plans, much like how we require the pre and instinct to be on simply everything plans. For example, if you look at the plans in our system for our broadband cards, there are a completely different set of codes for normal 3g cards, and the wimax cards avail up in baltimore. I hope this helps clarify things a little.

ok well this worked for me....goto your sprint store and just go thru the normal bs runaround their going to give you and just refuse to sign the contract tell them either they want your business or not if they say not then just start to leave more times than not they will give you what yu ewant because thier still getting there money in the end plus the salesman or woman gets their commission.thats what i did and i have not contract plus i flirted with the saleslady and got the discount on my tp for a new contract price...without the contract...

^ To the guy above me, I would double check that you don't have a contract anyway. I know plenty of reps who will lie through their teeth to get a sale no matter what kind of mess they make in the end.

I agree. One time i had my apache replaced through insurance in store, and the next time i checked my acct online i had a contract! I was like wtf?! So i called and give them hell and they ended my contract immediately. :protest:

That, and they couldnt provide me proof that i signed a contract... (i.e... no signature, no go)

did you check the contract or just check upgrade eligibility because i know back in those days any esn change would reset the upgrade eligibility unless someone at sprint went through and manually changed it back?

I see that, i just dont understand why they dont do contracts on a case by case basis... I been a loyal customer since i was 16, 10 years ago! Plus with the plan i have now, I have no intention on switching, i just like the option to be able to. ;)

because carriers are insecure little girls with abandonment issues? i dunno, i think its messed up and there should be a contractless option thats reasonable. who knows maybe with this anti-trust investigation of the big carriers (supposedly) gearing up maybe we'll see something change
