Is T-Mobile and AT&T better than Sprint Service?

I currently have Sprint, but now i'm starting to get fed up with them. All their new phones are 4G LTE, but cant even use it because sprint doesn't have LTE in the East Coast of United States not until 2013. So only 3G will work which is BS.

How is T-Mobile and AT&T? Are the Internet speeds faster than Sprints?? Is there anyone that switched from Sprint to either of these company's that are now more Satisfied? Thanks

i switched to the big pink T from sprint

from i what i can see tmobile has really good speed and signal in urban areas and along major highways. i live on the out skirts of the city and signal is weak at home however Tmo has wifi calling so theoretically my router is a mini tower

as for being satisfied so far yes i pay less and have signal that is reflective to the cost of the service

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.3.4; en-us; Sprint APX515CKT Build/GRJ22) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

Ok so basically, if you have real good Wifi signal. For instance, 5 bars of Wifi signal. Will that be your Cell Phone signal?? Or it doesnt work like that

I've switched from sprint to T-mobile last November and couldn't be happier. My speeds are faster than anything I've ever seen on sprint, I've seen anywhere from 1.8mb to 7mb. Also if you read this report below you'll see that T-mobile is faster than anything sprint has to offer. They also are even faster than Verizon LTE in some areas:

Most important thing is to check their coverage maps, make sure to zoom in on you're neighborhood, or work area. They can be good. Not so much in my area, my brother switched to Tmobile this year, and while he's saving maybe $10/month, he's stuck with slow 2g 85% of the time. Research is the key!

you can order either att or tmo sims and its cheaper then actual provider rates

This "slow 2G" is faster than sprint 3G so even if OP was to switch and get 2G only he would still get a speed boost. Its fast enough to do some CD quality music streaming, web browsing and some GPS Navigation but no videos.

If he goes to ST he won't be able to stream as much as he would be able to if he went with T-mobile or even AT&T.

Its definitely not faster than the Sprint 3g speeds I get. I think my bro gets around 200 kb/sec, on a good day.

Your speeds aren't typical, the average speed for the entire country is 0.41mb/s ,I've seen that a few times on 2G,that's the fastest 2G can get.

cornelious2 06-25-2012 08:23 AM

out in saint Louis area tmob is lucky to hit 60k in most county areas. honestly averages don't mean crap. long story short, check the area before you port a number over. you get x days to try a service if you're happy after that time then port your number, if not then pick someone else.

Really, well I'm on my way from Tulsa to st Louis via KC, Kansas. So far the results are pretty similar.

Just did this one outside our hotel, outside KC.

Expect them to be the same or better in St. Louis, the only time I had the poor speeds you talk about were when I was on 1x in the middle of nowhere 15+ miles away from a town.

Those speeds were taken during off peak times so of course they'll be good because nobody is on the tower. Also could be because those are rural areas too. Get into an urban or suburban area and your speeds will tank. That's what happened to me when I was in STL metro, 2mbps around noon but by 6pm they're down below 200k.

cornelious2 06-28-2012 06:22 PM

my stl speeds are 1.5 mb + reliably with Sprint.

That is KEY do reseach of who has the best coverage. Sprint sucks in my area, TMO is as good as AT&T. Till you live with service day to day, you'll never know EXACTLY how their service is (just cause they show coverage does not mean they dont have dead spots)...

I guess I like the idea that TMO uses a WI-FI network for a lack of signal. Verizon requres a $200-250 network extender.

You can give Verizon crap and get it for 1/2 that price but, it still is money out of your pocket. You need a internet connection for it, so I am paying monthly for Verizon service AND I am paying for min that I use over the internet connection that I pay for.

As I think about it that way, I feel screwed.

What is your zip code because I glanced at CT on the T-mobile maps and saw coverage? T-mobile also provides signal boosters for free to make up for it too. Some use the internet connection and some don't.

To fuel your fire Eric, my Sprint signal is almost non existant in Southern Indiana, but I already knew this! Thankful for the hotel wifi!

I don't think Tmobile is existant here either.

St Louis was a bit disappointing at around 1mb/sec.

Like I said, check the coverage maps.

Hmm I had signal on sprint when I rode through southern IN back in 2010 on the way to ATL, I was on a major highway tho so that's probably not saying much.

Got this on my touch pro 2 just now, pretty happy with it
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2040696809.png

I don't think the phone could handle going any faster, lack of processing power lol. But still much better than it was just months ago.

edit: yes I realize it gave it a F, but it's still about 5X faster than before the towers went up around me

I used to get more than that on my original TP back in 2009. now that I'm with Tmo that's the lowest my speeds go and this is with one bar. KC is sprint's home territory so of course they would work to get things straight there.

Edge speeds are much below 1mb down (1/4 the speed). So when you reach your limit you are in edge and you confirmed this correct? I'm glad you are happy with your service but let's be realistic here. 1mb down is not the lowest you see.

To sum up this question. Yes. Tmobile and ATT has much faster 3g speeds because they are using networks which are essentially 3.5g with theoretical speeds on 42mbs (tmobile) and 21mbs (ATT). Question you have to ask yourself is how is the coverage in your area and decide accordingly. For example if you have good sprint 3g coverage, unlimited data and wifi then you're good. If not, then look around. LOL.

I get up to 250k when on EDGE, and between 65 and 128 when tethering which is faster than what I was getting with sprint during the day from early 2011 on.

Yes I know the story. Well good thing is your are all set for now. I'm actually considering picking up an unlocked Galaxy nexus from the Play Store and activating it on Tmobile. It's selling for 349.00 and has Jelly Bean already. Pretty cool. But then I realize it would just add to my flashing sickness and I don't really need it. lol.

I am on a GNex on T-Mobile and I have been flash happy since yesterday switching between AOKP build 40 and Jelly Belly 4.1 ROM (which is FAST as hell).

Get it, I like it way more than the SGS3 or any other phone on the market, and my up/down speeds are fast as hell.
