VIDEO: i LOVE verizon!

seriously, 10x better than sprint ever was for me. when i signed up back in june i screwed up and only took 700 minutes between my wife and i. i learned it wasn't enough but was afraid to upgrade due to loosing my unlimited data which i was grandfathered into in june. well i just talked to verizon and as long as i keep a smartphone i will not loose unlimited. so i went ahead and took the 1400 minute plan for only $16 more a month with my employee discount. yes im paying more than sprint but i swear the customer service is top notch in my book. :notworthy:

with the new plan i also get to pick any 10 numbers from people we call and i get unlimited minutes. you cannot beat that deal!

Nice!! Glad to hear you are having a good experience with the Big Red. I am thinking about switching to Sprint to save some $$. =]

@Tinkerbell may I suggest T-mobile instead? The speedtest I have in my SIG is just an example of the 3G speeds that you'll see , that's better than sprint 4G and better than sprint 3G speeds will ever be. Plus T-mobile also has better signal quality (different than strength) than sprint does. For example with sprint my Rx Power would always hover between -91dbm and -104dbm with 2-4 bars of strength. On T-mobile my Rx Power is -83 to -90dbm on 0 to 3 bars of 3G in my house all this and I'm paying $85 a month (after student rate discount) for 10GB of 4G data and unlimited 3G data (according to the rep who sold me the plan),500 minutes, unlimited night and weekend minutes and unlimited texts.

Hey @eric12341! Thank you for the information! I am going to check into that!! I was thinking that when Tmobile throttled users back, they would be on the equivalent of CDMA's 1x. If the reduction in speed is 3G, then I am all for it! We don't have 4G where I live anyway!!

@Tinkerbell yea the rep told me that the speed reduction on the 10Gb plan is 3G don't know for sure as I haven't started that plan yet because my new sim has not arrived yet. Right now I'm on a prepay 5GB plan and I'm currently throttled because my sister keeps tethering her iPod. The throttled speeds I get are faster than what I got with EvDO on sprint (example of that in my SIG). I see pretty much anywhere from 154kbps to 320kbps on EDGE (2G). 2G is the speed reduction on the 2 and 5GB plans.

i would of went tmobile but there are alot of shady coverage areas here where i live.

Every carrier has shady coverage areas every now and then, even VZ. My aunt from PA who has them told me that there were several areas in my area where she had little to no signal. T-mobile is also supposedly sending out free signal boosters that don't require a broadband connection to those who are in fringe areas.

Well thing is customer service varies from person to person. You can definitely luck out, but what sucks is when you happen to get that 1 bad CS who does somethign wrong and now you can't get your plan back lol

But to confirm..so changing minutes still lets you keep unlimited data?

@gTen I switched to a postpaid plan entirely so I'm not on the monthly4G plan anymore,I only used that plan at first to save money and to see what would happen with the merger. But yea in short the rep who sold me the 10Gb plan told me that the throttled speeds won't be EDGE like the 5GB and 2GB plans but just 3G and since my phone (HD7) is a 3G only phone I may notice little or no reduction in speed. This plan also includes tethering, what other carrier bundles hack free tethering with their plans?

yup you can change your plan and keep unlimited. you just cannot switch to a dumbphone. i can confirm my plan changed while i kept the unlimited data.

I was referring more to fixxer as they discontinued the unlimited data on verizon. and I often hear stories on how on CS saying 1 thing and reality being another. (This is true for all carriers though)

As far as plans, yeah if you don't have 4G on your phone there is very little reason to keep it and more data always helps. Out of the major carriers I dont think many bundle hack free tethering. Then again for tethering methods like pdanet you dont really need to root...but out of all the official tethering offerings yeah T-mobile is only one. Its actually sad that verizon and att charge for tethering when they also charge for limited amount of bandwidth. Its kind of like making you buy something twice :/

Lol, remember the Tmobile 3g map posted a while ago. Its a joke! They even removed it from their website, now it just shows "coverage" which is mostly 2g! If you live inside a Major City you get great coverage. For rest of us it's mostly 2g.

Its great that you get good tmo coverage, but don't preach that it beats Sprint, because in most places it Doesn't!

@gullzway um, yes it does The Fastest Mobile Networks 2011 | PCMag.com

They have actually improved coverage in the last couple of years while sprint lost alot and even @gTen can attest to that. 2G is actually good enough for some slacker radio,TuneIN radio, iheartradio, low quality YouTube and some GPS navigation.

gullzway 02-02-2012 12:44 PM

Ok T-Mobile has great coverage if you live in a city that actually gets their 3g and don't ever leave it!
My brother is lucky if he gets 100Kb/sec.

@austin420
better than going with sprint and experiencing an overloaded network,
which is what she was going to do, that's FAILURE!!! All I know is that the rep told me "after using the 10GB you will not be slowed down to EDGE but to 3G"

Eric, do you think that T-mobile would activate one of my phones so that I could check coverage in my area\home before I make the move. I would hate to go through the effort of porting my number and LOSING my unlimited data on Verizon, only to find out my area has poor T-Mobile cell service!! :/

Just go here Unsupported Browser
and enter your zip code. You have to zoom in before it differentiates between 2g/3g/4g. They did that so you couldn't look at the whole U.S. map and see how small their 3g/4g coverage actually is. :bom:

Agreed, how did a thread about loving verizon turn into a Sprint suck thread again.

Btw, to add to the thread discussion. No Fixer, I don't love Verizon. But I like them alot. :) Good service for the most part, great coverage. Been a good experience thus far other than a few 4g lte outages this year.

Tinkerbell 02-02-2012 08:44 PM

Re: i LOVE verizon!

Riley, I like them a lot too!! I have great coverage and have never been disappointed with their service or customer service. I am just trying to make ends meet here and am paying 172 for two full service lines. I DO hate to think about changing carriers though. I would love to stay with the Big Red if I can afford it...

They are expensive but i think your paying for both better service & customer service. Maybe i just lucked out but thats my two cents. I can say tmobile would be my 2nd choice.

@fixxxer2008 u also don't have to be so vocal about Verizon but that's just me, all I did was make a suggestion to save someone from a potential disaster

@Tinkerbell u can use the coverage check tool and u can also use a prepaid plan for a month or two then goto a classic or value plan that's what I did after I found I was pleased with the speeds and coverage, also prepay coverage may be slightly smaller than postpaid coverage so if there's prepay coverage the postpay coverage will be the same if not better.

Verizon shows the whole US 3g coverage. Click on data, hit zoom once, then zoom back out!
Coverage Locator - Verizon Wireless
Same with AT&T
AT&T Coverage Viewer

US Cellular does as well
U.S. Cellular Voice And Data Maps | Cell Phone Coverage | U.S. Cellular

On Sprints you have to hit zoom once to see 3g coverage.

On T-Mobile you have to Zoom in "10" times, practically street view, before it shows you whether it's 2g or 3g. They're probably hoping you don't go to that much trouble, as my brother didn't, before signing a contract and realizing you're in 2G Coverage!!

same thing, still have to zoom,AT&T color codes 2G and 3G alike so it's hard to tell the difference. Quit hating because this network is faster.

Oh and carriers have this tool where u can enter your address or zip code and then it will zoom into the area so u can see all the coverage in the area. Your bro should've done this and he didn't so this is the consequence of it and as a result he should be blaming himself and not t-mobile.

my max speed trumps yours easily, I get that when I have full signal. 3000-5000 is way more than enough and impressive at my signal level I must say. HSPA in nature is much faster than EvDO so your comparisons are useless.
