Question About Sprint

Whats up guys?

Well I am currently on Sprint, and Also might grab up a GSM account, however for this question, that information is irrelevant.

Anyway, I was wondering if I buy an HTC Droid Incredible, Will Sprint Activate it? I heard that they will ONLY active phones that are branded "Sprint". However, I am not sure if that is true or
Snip :)
Still if this is breaking the rules, let me know, and I will edit that part out. As I love this site, and I do not want to do anything that will jeopardize my account here (or my good standing) Thanks, eenie

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.7 (WindowsMobile; PPC; Opera Mobi/35267; U; en; Presto/2.1.1))

what happened? i thought you bought an evo??? any talk of the above mentioned topic is NOT allowed here, "legal" or not. plus im not even sure its legal to clone your own esn, as the other phone would still be out there with said serial number. any serial number tampering is illegal unless done through the proper channels. equate it to changing the vin on your car by prying the vin plate off and switching it. still not legal even though you own the car.

1. No they wont activate it, and
2. Cloning, even your own ESN, is illegal. It's an FCC law.

Sprint won't activate VZW and VZW won't play with Sprint... Cranky huh?

Wait I am confused on this one. What should I know? About Sprint activating a Verizon phone? or about the ESN thing?

because as far as my specific job goes, we were informed by our "regional trainers" that cloning your own ESN was fine, its just when you grab someone elses that it becomes illegal (like with burning your own CD's/DVD's for example).

plus, I have only been with at&t for 4 weeks now, so cut me some slack, lol :P

Thanks BTW, you seem to be a good dude as well :occasion5:

again thanks for the clarification, and sorry about the bad question, did not mean to break the rules.

Also, just waitin till Monday to make sure the ESN on the Evo is clean (as he said he is currently moving and can't get me the info till Monday).

So sale is pending, and I am really looking forward to it, but since I got bit by the HTC bug, I am addicted...lol. Right now we have got:

Touch Pro 2
Hero
Evo (Pending Sale)
Nexus One (Pending Sale)

and I am looking at the Droid Incredible and the HD2 as well.

The federal law prohibits the cloning of ESN and many state laws prohibit tampering with the ESN unless you are the manufacturer...

If you can somehow convince HTC to change the ESN with 2 devices then that is legal...if anyone other then the manufacture does the change..its illegal...even if someone does the ESN change on the device, it is illegal to be in possession of that device altogether.

If you have to blame anyone..blame the jerks who tried to make easy money by stealing others ESNs through cloning...

On sprint your only choices of top end phones is either an EVO or upcoming Epic 4g

Thanks for the heads up, and yeah, that sucks. I mean don't get me wrong, I love the Evo, and the Epic has some impressive stats (though, I personally have never had good luck with Samsung).

However, there are SO many magnificent phones that we (Sprint users) will never get to use. I still vote for one universal band that will work with any phone (keep dreamin, I know, lol).

It is sad when I have to have 2+ Carriers just to use the phones I want.

Though, Would I be able to get the Incredible and then be able to use it via Wifi from the Evo (or from my house or work)?

...basically everywhere I am at I have access to at least one WiFi Network.

Again, thanks for the proper 411 :occasion5:

A day like that may actually come...most of the world is switching to LTE and Sprint lately decided to build out an TD-LTE network alongside the wimax network. If everyone goes LTE, we will finally be able to have that possible...

You could use Wifi..but remember Wifi drains more battery and you will only end up using it for data then? See sprint almost got the Nexus One (same as Incredible)..they even made a press release for it being released..and then they backed off at the last minute :(
