Anybody tried the LG Fathom?

Just wondering. There's no device forum for it yet. The specs look nice.

Just an update - I got it and I love it. I bought it from cellstores.com as an upgrade on my plan for free with a 2yr contract plus the cost of shipping - $20 for FedEx overnight.

Re: Anybody tried the LG Fathom?

I've tried it in the vzw store not even knowing such a phone existed. It was shuffled away into a rather unpopulated part of the store, and seeing that it had windows mobile 6.5 gave me the impression that it would just be like any other current winmo phone, slow, unresponsive, stutters.

However, what I didn't know was that it had a 1ghz snapdragon. When I turned on the phone and started poking around in windows I was SHOCKED at how fast and responsive it was. Not only was the standard winmo today screen super smooth but launching the start menu was quite actually INSTANTANEOUS, I've never seen anything like it really, soon I learned that even the usually laggy start menu was spot on continuously tracking with my finger with the most fluid motion I've ever seen. Every navigation was likewise instant. Internet explorer was even usable because it was so fast.

That snapdragon is truly amazing, If only the tp2 had a snapdragon processor at 1ghz, or if only I could overclock the tp2 to 3ghz (as clock for clock armv7 can be 2-3x faster than armv6)

This phone is truly targeting a niche market though. While I have to say the other super phones on the market: hd2, droid x, incredible, have quite amazing specs and would be nice to have, the lg fathom just offers the familiarity and flexibility of winmo, while not overtly displaying it's underlying speed demon. I kind of appreciate that there's now a fast phone in what looks and feels to be a small, durable, functional package.

Though I feel with the power they crammed into this phone, they could have at least not skimped out on the camera with flash(would be great as a flashlight). Although it does start the camera quickly, it's hard to get really anything usable out of it's 3.2 MP and vga video(i rarely use my tp2's camera because of this)

other than that, it has all the features of my tp2 except with a great processor and bit less ram. (512 would be great) Though I feel the processor can compensate in web browsing since it loads uncached parts so quickly it doesn't really matter.

Keyboard is pretty tactile but is a little hard to type on since it's a little cramped with the dpad. Also i wish there were a period key. I'd prefer my tp2 keyboard, but it's not bad enough to not be usable. I feel it's better than the droid's.

It's nice that the screen supports 260k colors, and well the size might be of benefit for one handed operation, though osk might be too cramped.
Also interesting that it has 802.11N support and that flash actually runs on this thing

This is pretty much all speculation at first glance though, I have no idea how it'll fare in the long run in stability and how durable it really is. Though I feel it would benefit greatly from having a development community.

This phone should be a great business phone, as it isn't very flashy, though it's speed wouldn't allow random slowdowns and stutters interrupt tasks. I've always believed that the computer should be waiting on the user never the user waiting on the computer.
