Strange phenomenon with using 4G
I live in the metro Atlanta area, which is covered pretty well with 4G coverage. However, my work location and home location are on the fringe of a pocket of no coverage. I get no signal at work, and at home, I don't show any bars, or I may get one bar, but never more. Speed tests confirm my speed is not very high. I think the best I've had at home is .6 mbs download, and about the same upload.
I was testing last night on 4G (.3 up/.3 down), and I was downloading webpages through dolphin browser faster than I was getting on 3G (I always get over 1 mbs downloads on 3G, sometimes up to 2.5 mbs). It wasn't much faster, but it was definitely faster. Has anyone else experienced the same thing? Why would a speed test show abysmal 4G speeds, compared to 3G, but download pages faster on slow 4G vs fast 3G? |

Re: Strange phenomenon with using 4G
Dude I experienced the same thing yesterday. I was flying through from MPLS to West Palm with an hour layover in Atlanta... I ran speed tests from my mobile device and got weak bandwidth tests but definitely was getting substantial speeds... pretty strange
I tried to find a way to hook it up to my laptop and do some speed tests to see if it was something on the phone as all the tests I was using were flash based so it seemed like maybe that was bogging me down, although they've worked fine on 3g before so not sure about that... Unfortunately I couldn't get pdanet to work on 4g and my hotspot wouldn't work even though I thought on 4g we were able to use that for up to a month for free... Kind of bummed... anyway 4g was definitely rocket fast! |

Re: Strange phenomenon with using 4G
i usually get a better ping on 4g, even with 0 4g bars and slower than 3g speeds.
