Sprint premiere accounts and main phone lines!!!

I've been a loyal sprint customer for around 15 years now. My wife's line was added a few years later, and then my daughters lines was added say 5 years ago. We've really had no issues at all with them. We've gotten many good deals and discounts. So, I am wanting to try out the EVO, nothing against the trusty TP2, but just time for a change. Like many of you I got my TP2 in September of last year. Since I'm a premiere member, my renewal is September of this year. I've seen a few people on the forum say they have called in and sprint has upped there renewal dates a few months so they could get the EVO for 199. So I thought I would give it a shot.

When I asked the rep my renewal date she quoted me September of '11. I said whoa, I'm on the premiere plan shouldn't it be '10? She looked and said, no your daughters phone will be ready for upgrade in a 6 months. She told me my daughters phone was the main phone on the account and she gets the 1 year upgrade. I said nah, it's mine, I've had it for 15 years. She politely let me know that as they add lines, the newest line becomes the main line, its how the system does it. Thats all fine and good until this comes up.

The kicker is this, she actually told me they could move up the upgrade date a few months on one line. But, she was going to have to change my phone to the main line. That takes a full billing cycle (july 2nd). Then once my line is the main line, it takes another 3 months before I can use the premiere discount. So that puts it in October. Maybe I should have checked all this sooner, but I don't understand their thought process. It's very aggrevating. Maybe a rep today will understand. What do you guys think?

so each time you add a new line, that new line becomes the primary line? that just doesn't make sense. how can your phone/line, which is the primary owner of the account be bumped off?

im an Premiere customer and had just added a SERO line on my account this week. better make a call over to sprint to make sure they didn't change the primary line on the account.

Yeah, it seems as if Sprint changes the "main line" to whatever phone was upgraded last. I've been a Sprint customer for about the same amount of time as you and it seems as if my main line always changes to whatever was upgraded last.

I'm on a family share plan and have added 3 other lines on 3 separate occasions and the original number on the account (my wifes), is still the premier number. But I'm glad to hear they will change that, I need to call to have them switch from my wifes number to mine so I can upgrade yearly, and even though it may be October when I could upgrade, that's still 11 months earlier than my upgrade would be, since I got my TP2 in Sept '09. And maybe different phones will be out or upcoming at that time. Either way, I've still got an asskicking TP2 to use until I can upgrade.

I added a line and mine didn't change....

To add to this, I just called *2 to confirm as this would totally pi$$ me off if they did and I just didn't notice.

Nope, still my primary. :) But I do thank you for making me check to be sure!!!!

I have learned over the years while working for large corp. companies that if it makes since to you they are pretty much going to do the complete opposite. sorry to hear about the problems.

This should have probably gone in the Carrier discussion.

Re: Sprint premiere accounts and main phone lines!!!

Try calling again ... i believe they can reduce the date by 3 months without any approval ... anything more just requires an approval

Re: Sprint premiere accounts and main phone lines!!!

I'll echo that on my family plan, the original number is the main line with premiere status.

I am having this same issue, my contract is suppose to be up in September. I talked to them last month about my account and thats when I found out that they had the newer line as the primary. Hopefully they get it all figured out because want my EVO in September.

Re: Sprint premiere accounts and main phone lines!!!

Solution:

Commandeer your daughter's phone, politely explain that her number has now changed, hand her the TP2, and then upgrade to an EVO. :)

When you look at your account online you will see the "main/premiere" phone as the phone with all the charges and the next line will have the services without charges because second line is free, and the any subsequent phones on the plan will have the 19.99 charge plus all the fun tax and stuffs on each. Thats how you'll know what is the "premeire" line.

How this worked for me was I had a Sprint account single plan. I switched to family plan and added one line. Rather than my original account being the Premeire it defaulted to the new number. I didn't know... Go on a year or two and I have added 2 more lines to the family plan, the original (2nd) Premeire line is still Premiere... I didn't realize this at all.

So when I read about this same situation in April I emailed customer care and said how confused I was that the wrong number was listed. They quickly replied and agreed to swap the Premiere "back" to my number which was teh original single account, but yes, it would have to be active for 3mos. Well, for me the 3mos was July 1, which coincidentally would have been my 1yr/premeire date anyway so I was OK with that.

Then I want the Bold to upgrade my Tour (Blackberry) and I called to beg an early renewal. That took some talking (to telesales supervisor) but with the ammunition of Customer Care who offered that telesales could, should and would upgrade me early since I was a customer in good standing, etc... I got my upgrade May 16, and my next eligibility I was politely informed will be May 16, 2011.:mrgreen:

Long story short, play the card that your lines were bumbled around and you didn't realize it until it was too late to do something about it in time for the EVO and could they make an exception. :)

Re: Sprint premiere accounts and main phone lines!!!

Glad to see this has happened to other people and not just me. :) I guess I can't get past the part of why they change the primary number to the newest line! If I have had one number/account for 15 years, then add a new line, I would think they would want to keep the primary number the same while the whole account is active.

Secondly, since I am a premiere customer, I don't think I should have to wait 3 months before I can use my upgrade. I guess I'll have to ask them why they changed the main number to the newest number. I surely didn't tell them to. Hopefully at minimum, I can get an upgrade in september, a year after I got my TP2. It would be awesome if they would allow me to bump my upgrade up a few months like I here some are saying. Have any of you guys had sprint move your 12mo upgrade up to like 9 or 10 months?? I see people in the TP2 forum saying sprint allows their reps to bump up one line a year or so.

Thanks, now I got to get that fixed, after looking at my bill they got it all out of wack.

thanks again.

Re: Sprint premiere accounts and main phone lines!!!

Yeah, they moved my line to the premiere(which I won't be on for 2 more months), I am due for my upgrade in july anyway, so I want to move it back to my wifes line. That way she will be due in October.

She is happy with her boring flip phone, and that means if a good phone comes out in october, she can upgrade and I can put the phone on my account...

Yeah, I'm a print customer for 14 years and Sprint has done that to me about 3x, the last time was Oct 09. I let the rep know the error and it was corrected while I waited on the phone took her about 5 minutes to correct but it was done....no worries

Hope it works out for you all. Glad my story can help. Biggest thing is to be polite, curious inquiry, then firm in your request.

you know, the exact same story happened to me. just i dont have a wife or a daughter on the account. and weve been with sprint for 11 years. but other than that exact same thing, and i was trying to see who the f*ck changed my line from primary to unprimary. they didnt know. all they could say is we only do it if asked by the person who owns the account. well, Thats ME!!! I Didnt Do It So Who Did???

bottom line, sprint ****ed me over for this one. i bought the phone cash and full price somewhere else and added it to my account.
