CSR at Sprint store said I cannot get insurance on my Evo if I buy at radioshack
 

I went to a Sprint store today and asked if I bought a phone at RadioShack AND I already have insurance on my existing TP2, will that insurance ($7.00/month) transfer over to my new Evo plan.

I explained that I'm on SERO and that I know I'll be transferring to a higher plan. Guy even looked up my account and said the following:

"You cannot get insurance if you don't buy the phone through us."

1. Is this true?
2. Calling Sprint CS on the phone, they told me no, as long as I have insurance on my account now, it transfers over to my new account so long as I'm just renewing.

So, which is it? Yes, insurance is still on my new plan or no, it won't transfer over because I didn't buy the phone from Sprint?

Very confused and would appreciate any expert insights here. I'm leaning toward going with what I was told on the phone as opposed to the CSR in the Sprint store.

The reason I even thought about this is because when I first got my TP2, they forgot to put insurance on the phone and I had to go to a repair center to show the phone to a tech who verified that it was still in working condition and that I wasn't trying to insure to make a claim.

I hate to say that the CSR is on crack but if the shoe fits. I have had TEP on my TP2 via sprint since i bought it 3rd party in november.

BS... I've gotten new phones off of ebay & as soon as I activated them I was covered...

Yes, you can get insurance on your phone. Do you really think people would be buying phones at BB and RS if the insurance wasn't available?

Your really issue will be the new plan you have to select for getting the EVO.
If you go through Sprint, you can stay on the EPRP program which is very close to SERO, but if you go to RS or BB, that may be more difficult to pull off. They might move you to a regular plan which, depending on what discounts you can get, maybe a lot more $$$.

Thank you all. I very much appreciate it. I'm not worried about the plan costs, I'm doing this because I get a nice discount on usage from my employer which makes it very worthwhile to go to the lowest new plans they have.

Insurance is put on the line, not the phone. Whatever phone is activated on that line is covered under insurance. I switch my work phone out all the time when I get bored, and have used the insurance many times to get things I break fixed.

Some sprint employee tell you that you cant get the $10/24 month credit and some do.

yea its on the line not the phone, when you activate the phone on that line it will be covered. Ive bought phones off ebay and had them covered.

10/24 ended a few days ago but some are able to get it
