Tethering questions
I installed FRX07.1. on my TP2 activated on Boost.
My question is, can I tether it to my computer? will I be able to access files on the SDcard and will I be able to share internet on the computer through the phone? Thanks |

Access files on the SD card? You can't really do that now. USB mass storage doesn't work, Android is using the SD card so there's no way for Android to unmount it... It's in use!! You can use Droid Explorer to fake it tho. Please read the FAQ. |

Re: Tethering questions
Thanks.
I installed Android explorer and it works, I'm still trying to figure out how to get internet on my computer through the phone... |

I addressed USB tethering, and 2 different types of wifi tethering (most of which is already in the FAQ!!) What more do you want!??! |

It doesn't get an IP, do you see some stuff in Device Manager that has a yellow question mark? I am going to pillage my Win7 lappy soon back to factory (needs repairs...) so I can see from a fresh install what happens. I'm 99.999999% sure adb is not required to tether. |
Re: Tethering questions
NO yellow or red in device manager, no mention of phone either. I can try it on my XP netbook, do I need a driver for XP?
Does the fact that I'm using a spring phone on boost have anything to do with the problem? |

You're enabling USB tethering after plugging it in, right? |
Re: Tethering questions
Yes, I do the settings-Tethering and portable hot spots and enable tethering, but nothing

If you have the option to enable USB tether, then the phone is recognizing it correctly. Try another USB port/cable and maybe different computer. |
Re: Tethering questions
oh I do get that sound too, and on the phone it says: USB conected and a button 'turn on USB storage' which I dismiss by pressing the home key, then I turn on USB tethering, but the computer still doesn't get an IP address.

Last time I tried this, it "just worked". You're on the newest kernel/rootfs correct? |

Are you on the newest rootfs as well...? Either USB tethering was broken at some point, or you're not doing it correctly. Have you tried the other suggestions? Different port, cable and computer if possible? |

when I plug in to my XP netbook it says 'found new hardware' wizard USB device. and it can;t find drivers. One more thing. I have installed the sprint stock 6.1. before that I had the stock 6.5 and it tetherd great under winmo with script that modified the registry. Maybe I should install OMGB? |

However, the fact that your XP "netbook" (odd) is finding new hardware is a good sign. Do you have another 'net connection in which to see if you can search for drivers on that machine? |
Re: Tethering questions
I installed the tetherxp.inf driver on my XP netbook then turned on tethering on the phone, Device manager says "Android USB Etherent/RNDIS under 'Network adapters' and the netbook gets the good IP address of 192.168.42.17, but I can't ping yahoo.com nor can I surf the web.

Can you ping 8.8.8.8? Are you able to ping the default gateway? ipconfig /all will show what is being used for DNS servers. This is definitely progress tho. |
Re: Tethering questions
I can ping both:

Re: Tethering questions
Ok, now it's working, I can ping yahoo, but I wonder why I don't get the DNS servers automatically. may it have something to do with the fact that it's on Boost??
Hopfuly I'll be able to use it with windows 7. Thanks for your help. I have some more questions, but I'll post them later... |

Not sure about Win7 either. Like I said, some dude said he couldn't get it to work, when everyone else said it was fine... When I jump ship back to HaRET for testing I can try again. |
Re: Tethering questions
I have some other questions, but I guess I should create a new thread for them...
