Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
Need people to run some tests for the mic detection and buttons.
You will need 2 headsets (one of them the classic h2w the other will be 3.5mm) with mics and buttons. Test is simple, fire up some music and plug in the h2w headset. Both audio and mic should be routed properly. THen plug in the 3.5mm (at the same time) and see if the buttons work. If they do great, then test out the mic. Let me know the results fellas. |

Does it have to be on any particular kernel? I'd imagine the newest (20110809) would be necessary as that has the h2w fix in it... Just want to make it as easy as possible ;). I don't have one of these fandangled headsets with buttons or mics, so I can't really test :p. |

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
what does linux-msm kernels mean? its the frxx07 meet that requirement?
I really want the mic line working so I can use the square up gadget. what does h2w mean? |

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
ahh yeah I don't have that. neither of my TP2's (bought used) came with it.
I will see if I can find any 3.5mm units with control buttons on them. |
Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
Running FRX07 full bundle 20110715 on a RHOD400. Using the h2w headset that came with my old HTC Titan/Mogul, because the TP2 didn't come with one.

At that point, I unplugged both headsets and rebooted the phone. Then I plugged both back in. I called the phone from my landline and tried to answer the call by pressing the headset's button. Nothing. Mic worked fine on the headset, but only as long as the 3.5mm stayed plugged in. When I unplugged the 3.5mm, the headset's mic stopped working. Audio worked though. The button never did anything. Here's an odd thing. When both the 3.5mm and h2w are plugged in, music won't pause for more than 5 seconds. If I unplug the h2w, the music stays paused indefinitely, and instantly unpauses when I plug it back in. When I ended my call, the music came back on after 5 seconds. I hadn't even had the music app open since rebooting. I pressed the Home button and then long-pressed it, and Music didn't even show up on my recent apps list. [ACL], I'd be more than happy to let you borrow my h2w headset (and maybe one of my spare RHOD400s). I never use 'em. Hit me up at my username at gmail.com. |
Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
I so appreciate you working on this (all of you)
I don't have a h2w but I do have another gizmo. I have a "Square up" its a credit card swiper that goes into the3.5mm jack. I "THINK" it uses the "mic" input to send the swiped data from the swiper to the app on the phone. it DOES detect the gizmo when I plug it in (so that works) but it does not "get" any data when I "swipe" the card. I know it detects because it tells me to plug it in and that stops when I do so. |

As a sidenote, you said you were running FRX07 - did you update to the newest kernel? That will be required to make the h2w headset work. If you don't mind, please try the experiment again after updating to the latest kernel... |

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
I got the original USB headset from HTC for the phone. It does not appear to function AT ALL in android (full install FRX07)
Insertion does nothing. NO audio at all comes through the headset (comes out the speaker when I play music for example) I made a phone call. nothing on the headset comes out the earpiece not the phones. the button does nothing at all that I can see I tried talking through the mic and I can HEAR something but I can not hear enough to determine if its intermittent sound coming through the headset mic OR if the mic on the handset it just picking up the sounds I am making. I don't have a 3.5 mm headset I will get one and see what happens. |

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
I have the FRX07 Full Install Bundle and nothing else.
I get absolutely nothing when I try to use the USB headset. I thought it was maybe my headset (just got it in the mail) but I plug it in in windows and it works fine. |

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
ahh ok detailed instructions please. or do I just follow the incremental updates instructions on the simple frex07 thread ? just grabbed the newest of each of those file sets?

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
Click the link I posted a second ago, and it should download the files. Open Winrar or whatever you're using and it should show you the two files. Delete your zimage and modules from you sd card. Drag the two downloaded files to replace them. Rename 'zimage_20110809' or whatever it says to to 'zimage'.

for your testing, use the 8/9 version, the 8/19 version has some new stuff which shouldn't break anything, but just in case... |
Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
ahh good. I got the 8/09 installing now the other one you posted I can not interface with that file. it decompresses to a file called
htc-msm-linux-20110809_080420-package.tar-1 how do I interact with that file? I renamed my zimage old and added this one renaming to just zimage what do I do with the modules? do I decompress it? leave it alone? rename it? I see an existing modules file. is that a backup or is that "the file" do I erase it and add this one. do I just add this one? do I rename the new one to be the same as the old one? old one modules-2.6.27.46-01340-g2c1d169.tar.gz New one modules-2.6.27.46-01346-g8704c33.tar.gz |
Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
Ok I "guessed" that I just needed to copy the modules file intact and it appears to have worked.
OK headset works. Odd behaviour when I press the button from main screen it turns on the android music player and start playing. (ripped the phones out of my ear it was all the way up) :-) pressing again pauses. both sound and mic work in a phone call. I can press the button to answer the call During a call a press "mutes" the call pressing again unmutes. Pressing and HOLDING hangs up the call. I noticed when I was doing this the MUSIC PLAYER icon appears in the status bar. when I "unplugged" the head set this went away but did not return on replugging the headset. it would seem it always "invokes" the music player (but does not "play" the music in the call) might explain why answering the phone via the button takes a bit longer than normal. its answering the call AND invoking the music player app ?? I will try to find a 3.5mm headset tomorrow to try out. The "Square up" device still does not work. (I have no idea why ie mic line or some other incompatibility) it recognizes when I plug the gadget in but keeps saying reswipe quickly. More tommorrow if I get a 3.5mm headset. after using it to make a phone call it NO LONGER WORKS for music. it still invokes the player and plays but the sound comes out of the PHONES earpiece not the headphones. if I unplug the headset it pauses but it DOES NOT route the sound properly now. ie I hit play and I get NO sound speaker or earpiece. if I then replug in the headset it again pauses and on play again NOW it plays out of the ear phones. on unplugging still no sound from the speaker. so it seems once you plug in the headset you can not use the "speaker" to play music any longer. BTW HTC headset sucks. don't get me wrong it sounds great but the "tangle" factor for this stinking think is as strong as a freaking black hole :-) hehe some other issues. when headset is plugged in you get NO RING. period. not through earpiece speaker or headset. the ringer is "silent" at all times. I don't think any other sounds play either (notifications) it DOES pause the music if your playing it and a call comes in. I can answer by pressing the button. it still takes a VERY long time (upwards of 8+ seconds) to actually answer the call. it does NOT return to the music player at end of call it stays at the call log screen. have to press "back" to get to music screen again. I noticed something else. the SECOND time I took a call it answered almost instantly when I pressed the button. same with 3rd and 4th call. SO that would appear to be a memory issue. IE its loading something and once thats loaded its "fast" the next time. You can turn the screen off while play and still get sound in the headset. the phone of course does not go green (I assume this is normal) ALSO another odd thing. when I pug in my "square up" gadget the orange LED "turns off" when I unplug it the LED comes back on. it ALSO does this with the headset sometimes but I have not figured out how to reproduce that. not sure what it means. ALSO now my speaker is working again. not sure if its a procedural thing ie end call end music player then unplug headset. I have found no ryme or reason as to why it did that. it might have been a one off fluke. I will use it more often over the next 24 hours and report back if it does it again and if so I will attempt to reproduce the steps to cause it. |
Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
I dug up two nice 3.5mm headsets. one Samsung and one Blackberry
both work fine for sounds but NOTHING on the mics and NOTHING for the buttons. ie I get no sound through the mics and the buttons does nothing at any point in time. am I doing something goofy? I am using the latest build that arghhh posted. |

Re: Mic detection on 3.5mm (rhodw only)
I am. the USB headset did not work and now DOES work on the newest kernel/packages update
the 3.5 does not. audio works (music and calls) but the button does nothing and the mic does not appear to transmit any audio. when I get home just to be sure I will verify the headsets actually WORK (on my other tp2) |
