Wow, I just tried better kb 8 and I like it a lot. How do you change the settings to turn off the sound?

It should be under the settings >> keyboard/input method >> better keyboard.
I ditched BK8 for iPhone Keyboard emulator, which was then shortly replaced by the stock gingerbread keyboard again due to speed :P

Can the gingerbread kb be ported to 2.2? Speed is my friend. ;)

Heh, I'm gonna be a smart ass and say the keyboard that's built into the phone... one of the main reasons I wanted the TP2 :p.

But for soft kbd's, SwiftKey wasn't bad... but I got sick of the autocomplete all the time - not sure if you can restrict it to only the soft kbd or what, but it was always taking over. It did get pretty good over time, but I still found it obnoxious as I'm usually on the full qwerty, in which case I'm usually spelling out the whole word anyways ;).

Agreed, I uninstalled swiftkey because it kept "correcting" my physical keyboard, got really annoying.

I've seen the gingerbread keyboard ported to froyo on some G1 builds. You can probably find one of those and just copy the .apk. Dunno. From what I've seen, I didn't like the GB kbd anyway.

LOL....okay, smartass. :evil4:

I've tried the KBs mentioned here, except for the GB & Swift. Speed is important, but finger-friendly is too. I'm gonna check switftkey out...
Been messing around with Swype, and it seems pretty cool, but not as finger-friendly as I'd like. Maybe I can change button size? Haven't seen that option yet...

What was wrong with the GB keyboard?

I'm not sure what highlandsun sees wrong in it, but I respect his opinion--I myself didn't like it at first either. The keys felt kinda small, but maybe I've been spoiled with Fingerkeyboard over on the WM side of things :P After I turned off most of the autocorrect features the speed of it rose a lot, but it still changes il to >> I'll, which is all I really want from a keyboard :)

As far as porting it over to froyo ... there were a couple of guides on google that I found, but I didn't have time to look things over :( Dang these finals...
