Largest SD Card Reported To Successfully Work?

What are some of the largest cards users have reported to be working with XDAndroid...

I know it has to be class 2, I have a 16Gb Class 2... It's formatted to fat32 but IDK if it fails because I don't have XDAndroid in a specific folder and it's directly rooted to my card with all the other normal folders and files windows has put there or because of the size of the card...

I picked up a Lexar 2Gb Class 2 and loaded nothing but XDAndroid to it and it successfully boots...

So unless someone invents a hardware mod allowing Touch Pro2 users to have 2 microSD cards in their phones I'm willing to try downgrading to the next closest size or reportedly largest size card and using it mainly for WinMo and XDAndroid.

Either that or I'm almost tempting to fork over 65 bucks for a 32Gb Class 2 card, try formatting it into two partitions and attempting to load XDAndroid that way... Solely using Storage Card 2 as the WinMo card.

It doesn't have to be class 2. My card is class 4, and it works great.

I've heard class 6 & 10 cards work, but you might run into issues. c4 seems to be the sweetspot.

I know several that run XDAndroid from a 16gb card, but I bet a 32gb card would work - assuming the phone can see the card, it should work. I only have an 8gb card...

Okay quick question... Do you all have the XDAndroid files and folders merged intogether with all of the other normal WinMo files and folders on the root of the card?

I always thought it would interfere with the loading of XDAndroid if they were all mixed intogether... Or does it matter?

Not sure how to answer this question.

You can put haret.exe, zImage/modules, etc files into a folder... but Android will still create folders at the root of the SD no matter what - Android, media, cache come to mind but I think there's more. Also, apps can create folders at the root of your SD, making your question even more difficult to answer.

I've got a geniune Sandisk 32gb C2 (gets 5.5mb/s writes though). I only used it to test, but normally I'm on my 16gb C6 :D

Can anybody report if they have windows folders i.e. program files, temp, my documents et cetera on their cards all with XDAndroid on the same card.

And if it has or hasn't effected the booting of XDAndroid...

Mind you I don't have any windows files per say, just the necessary windows folders and what not to successfully run windows programs from the storage card.

Thanks

Yes, I had all those windows folders on my SD card for a while, and everything is fine. Only downside is that the Android gallery app will scan the SD card and stick in every random image it finds from your WinMo programs, and the Android music app will do the same for audio files.

I'm curious as to what problems were happening with a class 10 card, I found one for about the same price as the class 2 I've been looking at... Faster data transfer speeds http://www.realpics.net/emotes/drool.gif hahaha! Then again, I might hunt and peck around for a class 4 for the same price... I've already got 16Gb but it's a class 2 and only has 500mb's left on it and no XDAndroid on it.

I get random write timeouts on my 16GB Patriot class10 card. It's incredibly annoying. I'm thinking of looking for a Sandisk; they're usually the most expensive, but they also usually work reliably.

I feel that Sandisk works the best

C10 cards might actually have a problem, being "too" fast for Android, haha. Might be a similar behavior regarding to why some C10 cards have a problem with WP7 - see Compatible SD Cards for Windows Phone 7 - xda-developers

Ahh okay, that sucks... But cool, good to know what happens... I highly doubt it's the brand effecting it as much as I think it's the class.

I'm watching this and thinking about getting it: http://stores.ebay.com/3c-expert-201...&_sid=40509555 (Last 2 Auctions), the guy seems to be a respectful seller and for as long as I've seen his name around he's always been selling memory cards... So it's a lot better than some new user who sells a couple shirts, silverware, toys and then suddenly has hundereds of memory cards for sale. Thats when it begins to get fishy and you have to watch out. LoL! I made that mistake once, hopefully lightening really doesnt trike twice and it wont happen again... If it does I'll dispute it, demand a refund add 30 or 40 more bucks to my account and get higher priced card.

I'm actually with drawing what I said about 3c_expert according to 1 negative feedback

Thats enough to change my mind...

And am going with newegg and an A-Data card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211535

I can't even recall the number of sandisk cards I've had just crap completely out on me with no hope at all of saving and reviving back to be usable again... I believe it's somewhere around 5 or 6 at least, all ranging between SD, MiniSD and MicroSD... Luckily this last 16Gb did it once and I used and WinMo app called CNetX Flash Format and it managed to bring it back to life.. I tried everything else before resorting in one last effort and using CNetX - Windows XP Formater, WinMo Formater, ResCo Formater and then bam CNetX finally worked and did the trick... I don't trust the 32Gb Kingston MicroSD since thats what I got scammed by and have given up hope on using/buying another SanDisk due to past experiences. LoL

Really though it's all matter of the users personal opinion and preference.

Re: Largest SD Card Reported To Successfully Work?

Help!!?!!?

Trying to decide and debating on these 2 Cards:
Buy.com - Dane-Elec 32 GB microSD High Capacity (microSDHC)

Newegg.com - ADATA 32GB Class 4 Micro SDHC Flash Card with Adapter Model AUSDH32GCL4-RA1<---One user reported that with his Smartphone the card would stop transmitting signal to the slot and he'd have to pop the card out and back in again to be usable again... I'm wondering what type of smartphone he was using, if he had one of those hack cab's installed and so on...

Only difference is the NewEgg card is a Class 4 and the Buy card listed is a Class 2... Dane-Elec offers a 10 Year Warranty, A-Data offers a 1 Year Warranty accordingly with troubles/hassles of customers getting that warranty fulfilled...

haha! The more I talk about it the more tempted I am at getting the Dane-Elec, surely it might a slower but I won't have to worry about the hassles with poor customer service and card signal to the phone getting lost.

What do you think?

I have an A-Data 8gb C4 that works great, gets sequential 19mb/s read, 11mb/s write

I also have a Sandisk 32gb C2 that gets 15mb/s read, 5.5mb/s write

I would see what speeds and reliability the Dane-Elec gets also

Yea I was taking into major consideration that the user who gave that review either had an incompatible phone, messed up phone or used one of those hacked cab's that really never do anything at all or could cause more harm than good.
_

How would you all say Kingston is? I'm tempted, almost... Found one on newegg and I'd believe I can trust them a lot more than a ebay seller...
_

-edit!-
Scratch that after reading, data corruption very quickly and not truly Class 4 qualifications... I'd suspect this being on Kingston's end...

I guess I'm going with the A-Data and buying an extended warranty from newegg.

Re: Largest SD Card Reported To Successfully Work?

Just confirming that the A-Data 32Gb Class 4 works with XDAndroid, simply copied everything over from my 16Gb Class 2 and booted it up with no problems...
_

I'll certainly report back if I see any problems occurring like that one NewEgg user gave on his review for his smartphone and the card suddenly not responding.

-crosses fingers-

Hopefully I wont be back to report that though! LoL

Yeah, I think I'm going to replace my 16GB class10 with a 32GB class4. Too many I/O errors on this thing.

Yea then you could always make half of what ya spent on the new card off on craigslist by selling your 16Gb, or just keep it as a backup. LoL

from what i've seen on the market there is no microsdhc class 10 (16gb, 32gb, 8gb?) that is good. there have been so many complaints/errors on this (random corruption, lost files, unformattable card) after a certain period of time.

i've got a lot of c2/c4/c6 from 512mb->32gb cards that have (for the most part) performed well in my TP2 (and for xdandroid)
