Make android not sleep

So i accidentally asked this question before but not in the android section, it got way off topic so i am starting a new thread specifically for android. Is there a way to turn off it going to sleep? I am running a program that has an alarm but if the machine is asleep it does not go off. There is an option in the program to disable sleep however it does not function on my touch pro 2. I do not care about battery life if i can get this working. I looked around and am only see the screen time out which has a max of 30 minutes. While this isnt a problem it appears that if i lock the phone it falls asleep way sooner then 30 minutes. And i again miss my alarms.

Thoughts.

I believe you'd need a 3rd party app to do such horrors. I think there's some Battery Saver app or some such thing on the Market that would allow you to configure such a setting.

My question is why? The built-in alarm clock not work? Mine always wakes me up, never missed an alarm - unless the battery was dead or the phone was locked, which has happened in WinMo as well as Android lol.

If you can use apk files on the TP2 running Android... I think I may have the solution.
I run a program called screen on and you can find it on the market.

So its a specific program i am using called ExerTime. The first few alarms go off bet after a bit of time they stop. Like i said before three is a setting in there that says dont let the device go to sleep however that doesn't work it still hits the first two or so alarms then no more.

What about the app I suggested?

Or the one I vaguely suggested? I can get more specific if needed, I think it's pretty simple to find AFAIK.

yeah sorry haven't had a chance to test them. I will in the next few days and let everyone know if it works.

Re: Make android not sleep

this is exactly what I just thought about wanting. I use my phone as my alarm clock and Now that ive been using android fulltime, ive been searching for a good alarm clock; ive always used MortPlayer on WinMO (has sleep and alarm functions to play music).
The android mortplayer alarm goes off but when you snooze it never goes off again until it wakes back up =(. So keeping it on 24/7 would force it to work =)

demonlordoftheround 04-13-2011 09:21 AM

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2.2; en-us; BLAZN 2.2.2 Build/BLAZN 2.2.2) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

What about running the clock app?

What's wrong with the built-in alarm clock? Blows the built-in WinMo alarm clock out of the water - I can actually set more than three alarms, lol!

It's always worked for me, assuming the device isn't locked up, etc.

I'm not sure why 3rd party alarms wouldn't work tho... Perhaps the way they request the phone to wake is wrong, as the stock alarm clock works great...

The built in does work perfectly and is nice but i do like Music alarm clocks vs plain and simple sounds =)

I am bumping this, I am still having issues. I am going to do a bit more testing and will post back.

*EDIT*
I guess i am at kind of a lose on what to test here. Maybe its my app i dont really know. However if i kick off the timer and it is set to wake the device. The first time it got all the timers. The second time i ran it, it missed the last timer, and the third time i ran it it missed half the timers but got the last one. The 4th time it got the first 3 and none others.
I am using a program called exertime
I would be more then happy to test with other ones.

*EDIT2*
ok after a bit more testing one thing i see is that the timers work when the LED is orange but after about 30 seconds of me hitting the power button it goes green and the timers stop. The program does keep running because when i turn the phone on the timer has counted down.

Sounds like a kernel issue. Which kernel are you on? My phone wakes just fine when I have alarms set...

I would rather have a working alarm clock with limited sounds to pick then a broken clock with any sound i can pick. just sayin

Then am I to assume you didn't change the kernel that I bundle with FRX06? That is kernel 1276, should wake just fine for alarms. I'm on a newer kernel, but there's not many that exhibited the fail-to-wake-for-alarms bug.

The stock alarm clock exhibits this same behavior on 1276?

I will check and get back to you.
It was mentioned earlier that maybe the code the program was using to wake the device was different but i guess i would like to think that all wake ups should work if working the way it should.

I'd hope so as well, but you can't ever trust 3rd party apps. They can employ whatever method they see fit, which may not be standards-based. If the built-in alarm clock works, I'd say there's an issue with the app.

Re: Make android not sleep

only tested once but it appears the standard alarm clock works.
Its a bum deal i really like the app, Although i have found a work around for it.

Re: Make android not sleep

I know if you use wifitether the phone will stay awake, another is gps status. maybe just try finding an app that keeps the screen awake?

Re: Make android not sleep

If you prevent the phone from sleeping, the battery definitely will not last all night long (8 hours). If you want to go this route, you'll need to keep the phone plugged into a charger. If you're going to do that anyway, you can just go into Development Options in Settings and check the box to disable sleep when plugged in.

Re: Make android not sleep

I found a program that works for me. It was mentioned earlier in the thread by someone. "Screen On" It works for what i need however i cant lock the screen. So if someone also knows of a screen locking solution that i can still see the program. I use it as a timer that would be sweet!

PS i dont care about battery, i only use it in this fashion for an hour at a time.

Also i use "Screen On" for my music player so when i am using my BT in my car the screen just stays on.
Pretty slick.
