Should work just fine, force_cdma=1 in your startup.txt.

Phone won't work as phone CDMA and GSM, one or the other basically.

Edit - as pointed out below, for GSM you need force_cdma=0 or remove the value entirely, the default is 0. I shouldn't post late at night... Being drunk probably doesn't help either :p.

arrrghh, shouldn't it be force_cdma=0 for GSM phone or totally remove this parameter?

You need to call Sprint if they are your service provider to activate an international plan for your phone. A much cheaper alternative would be to get a prepaid SIM card from a local provider.

Is your SIM slot unlocked? Otherwise you'll have to go directly thru Sprint as demonlordoftheround said. The only other way to use a SIM in the device is to unlock the SIM slot - similar to HSPL, as I understand it, but I've never done it.

Does the SIM slot work in WinMo...? If it doesn't, then you definitely haven't unlocked it. If you're just having issues in Android, then force_cdma=0 for GSM. Sorry about the mis-information earlier...

Sorry, my previous post was wrong, force_cdma=0 for GSM mode... I shouldn't post late at night like that :p. You can also remove the value like previously mentioned, the default is 0.

arrrghh, Sprint Touch Pro2 SIM comes unlocked. Maybe the phone is in CDMA only mode?

OP, try changing the Network mode to Global in the Windows settings.

Phones like the Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro allow for switching between GSM and CDMA easily.

Has anyone on here looked at what makes that possible on those phones, and if we can do that just as easily on the TP2?

Don't think that will work in our case as network mode is set in the startup text unlike a native android device.

Really? I thought the SIM slot was locked up. Is it VZ only that locks theirs...? I've never tried putting a SIM in my phone...

Maybe in Haret, but it ought to work in NAND.

Sprint TP2 is locked only to prevent AT&T/TMobile and other US sim cards from being inserted. All foreign SIM cards should work without unlock, since the idea is that it's a global roaming phone.

I was under the impression that Sprint wanted you to pay $$$ to use the phone internationally, and that only their SIM would work if the slot was still locked.

Again, haven't tried it so I don't actually know.... Wish I traveled abroad more so I could test it :p.

There's no "CDMA Modules" to be deleted AFAIK. Heck, I have a CDMA phone and in my logs I see a bunch of crap where Android is trying to force it to use GSM commands...

But 10 mins, that seems odd. You're doing something else wrong I would imagine, I just don't know what. Are you fully updated?

Oh, if it's more then 10 minutes then it's a known issue. I thought you meant every 10 minutes it was disconnecting.

I don't know what causes it, but I know our RIL code probably needs some serious work. I see a bunch of GSM garbage that my phone outright rejects, as it's being used as a CDMA device. Not sure what's happening in your logs, it'd be pretty humorous if it was forcing that radio to use CDMA commands, but I seriously doubt it - most of the devs have GSM, and I believe all of the RIL programmers we have are GSM.

But basically it is a known issue. Sometimes the radio just seems to flake out and not work... Sometimes you just lose data, or it gets hung. C'est la vie, there's a ton of bugs we're trying to squash at the moment.

This isn't meant to replace WinMo - if you think it can at this stage, you're kidding yourself.

Well in theory there will be a fix for everything, assuming we can find the root cause of the problem.

Like I said, look at how the Motorola Droid 2 Global and Droid Pro work as duel CDMA/GSM devices.

If such an implementation can be done with the TP2 CDMA in NAND only, then ok. If it can be done on Haret or NAND, then hell yes.

I don't think their code is open dude - do you have a repo or the docs?

Re: SIM CARD & Andriod???

isnt our Android Port from the Nexus? and some of the code from the vogue? (idk what Vogue Linux means if you read while its loading up, so pardon my assumption lol)

if the Nexus doesnt support international or dual GSM/CDMA than i would expect that the TP2 ports never will either... wouldnt someone have to completly write/code in that ability and such, commit it, then it would get out for Mass use?

Im just saying that I dont think its just something that "isnt working".. I think its something thats not even there to begin with because of the Source of our Port.. lemme know if Im way off here guys... self-admittedly Im no Android expert by any means.

Our port is a giant hodge-podge, with some of the RIL coming over from Vogue.

The port itself isn't necessairly from the N1 - we just pull our system images from AOSP, which the N1 runs. We just tweak it to work on our phones.

There's a lot of other code we borrow like from the Legend, etc. I'm not entirely sure either, all I know is we pillage code wherever we can and somehow the amazing devs make it work.

and boy are we grateful for that!

Im trying to convince my gf now that mobile is the way to go... after angry birds makin a Million A Day for a minute there, Im convinced I need to take my decent little startup knowledge and get in something as simple as an ITT Tech or something and start learning some real programming skills and such..

i feel bad sitting around and waiting for ANdroid things to happen.. MMS aside, because ive tried what i could for that..

All I can say is, mobile phone programming is VERY different from programming on a PC.

Not that the concepts don't apply to mobiles, there's just a lot more to worry about in a mobile phone then there is on a PC.

I know several programming languages (although I'm far from 'fluent' in any...) and while a lot of the same languages are used in mobiles, the sheer amount of stuff to worry about hurts my head - RIL for the radio, BT, wifi, etc etc etc. A lot more to concern yourself with, normal programming you are just concerned about the UI or the code being clean/efficient.

For the techs on here, it can't be that hard to figure out what makes the Duel Radios tick on the Droid Pro and Droid 2 Global. At least look into it.

Reverse engineering isn't easy, the main reason the RHOD has made such progress lately is docs - I can tell you that much for sure.

GUYS GUYS its not that complicated as you talking about i find out the SOLUTION :D :D
all what we have to do is change in STARTUP.TXT

you must check your startup.txt and set to pm.sleep_mode=1****.
default its set to 0.
that solved this issue for me :D :D :D im having SIM WORKING FINALLY

Uhm... that honestly has no correlation to the way the SIM works.

Glad to hear it's 'fixed' tho.
