No home key on newest build

Alright I am using a TP2 on USC with the latest build of android reference. The only problem is the old builds used the power button for a home key, this version doesn't have one. Power button turns off the screen and locks it, same as call end key. Back, Windows, dialer and volume buttons all work the way they should though. Any idea how to fix this? It makes using android a pain.

Maybe try reading the FAQ and searching first? The same question has been asked dozens of times in the past few weeks since the change was made and answered just as many times and the info was posted on the Android port site that Reefer is maintaining on how to change it.

Indeed. The decision was made to have it function more like WinMo. I can see both sides of the argument, and the best thing to do was to have it function closest to WinMo so newbies would be sorta used to the button layout.

Spare Parts tool lets you change the end key behavior so you can partially get the home key back. Currently no long press home key solution, short of hacking the rootfs yourself, or keeping your phone back update-wise.

Either way, you definitely need to search before hitting that new thread button.

I know it's only November, but I hereby vote for Arrrghhh as the most patient poster of the year. My God, how many people are going to whine about the fix to the power/home buttons??? You'd think that the fix was the greatest travesty since New Coke. (Hmmm, am I dating myself here?)

Thanks for always putting up the good fight arrrghhh. The saddest part is the exact same post can be found just a few down from this one where I gave directions on how to do what he wants. Also, note that the change was made in the kernel, so they have to revert that change if they really don't like it.

For directions on building your own kernel without the change, see this thread: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/tp2-androi...me-button.html

Thx dude. I thought the button and kbd layout was in the rootfs, but it's only the kbd layout...

I second the vote MrPib... I still can't believe with all the help he's done out there answering questions and helping anyone and everyone (without even having an attitude!!!) that he's not a VIP on rep alone at this point. He takes the time to answer the same questions over and over again and some of the time he doesn't even get a thanks for it!! It's insane!!
