mapping keys for android
I am a nub with andorid and the TP2's... heres my problem... i am on freyo reference latest build. for some reason my end call key is "power" and my power(top) is "power". when i was using blazen the power key (top) was home. so basically i have no home key. is there a way to edit a txt file or any apps that will let me map my end call key as my home key?

Re: mapping keys for android
No, they are in the rootfs. You'd need to go back a few versions to have it like it was
You can, however, go into "Spare Parts" and re-map the end key to act as a home key under "End button behavior". The only thing you can't do is a long press home key for previously used apps, as it will still bring up the long press power button menu |
Re: mapping keys for android
thats exactly what i wanted!!! thank you soooo much!

You've been thanked EGOvoruhk :D

Re: mapping keys for android
Is there no way at all to bring up recently used apps anymore? That's pretty painful, I use that all the time.

I never used it... you used it all the time? I call my list of recently used apps my home screens... :p If it's REALLY that big of a deal to you, go back to the older rootfs. Just know that it may cause issues, and we won't be able to solve them for you! |

Also, I daily use Android, and in order to keep things from being too slow, I only have two homescreens, and don't list any apps on those screens to avoid having to cache their icons. It's a shame the devs decided to change this, because it works great the way it was, and now we just have reduced functionality. |

Either way, go back to an older rootfs (probably kernel too) if it's that big of a deal. |
Re: mapping keys for android
so whats the kl file in the rootfs that handles the rhod500 navi buttons? or is this in the kernel?

Re: mapping keys for android
There was another change in the kl files just now, but I can't seem to figure out what it does. It seems exactly like it was prior to this, though it claims to have swapped power and home

Always feel free to drop in IRC and let stinebd know if something isn't working the way it should be. Also, when testing, try to start off with a clean andboot folder. I always rename my old one, create a new andboot folder, and download all components directly from XDAndroid.com (or compile myself). That will make sure it isn't something from your old setup ;) |
Re: mapping keys for android
I'm on a RHOD400, and I usually delete my data.img before testing out a new build. I'm assuming the 500 should be relatively similar, as it's Verizon and 400 is Sprint
I'll have a poke around IRC later. Let us all know if you come up with anything as well |

Example: You are taking some notes in your notetaking app and need to switch back and forth with the calculator app to do some calculations for your notes. There's no easy way to do this without the recent apps list. |

Like I said I never used the recent apps list. If it's that near&dear to you, just keep your phone back! |
Re: mapping keys for android
I gotta say, I *love* the new key arrangement. After a year using WinMo, I'd hit the top power button to sleep the phone pretty much every time, only to have the screen overviews pop up. Now the power button does the expected action -- sleeps the phone.

Re: mapping keys for android
I dunno. As a person whose primary phone is an Android device, and a regular user of homescreen replacements, the Home key has been given a lot of functionality by developers. Spareparts offers a very weak substitute in the End key, and though I understand some of the devs here might think the Home key is useless, I wonder if it'd be more reasonable to take some sort of poll to see how users actually feel about it.
Recent programs isn't *providing* multitasking, no, but for any user who wants fast app switching, it's the most user-friendly method of pulling it off. It's kind of like the 'Last' key on a TV remote. Yeah, sure you can punch in the channel number of where you just were, but it's AMAZING how often your average couch potato uses it. |

i still use 2.1.. i like the home key(top button) task switching also... i even downloaded something from the market, so my Home key(top button) does and looks exactly like the EVO..
