Location working without wifi?

My location in Android on my TP2 seems to have stopped working unless I either enable GPS or Wifi. In retrospect, it may be that I always had wifi on in the past when location was working.

This affects me both on Google Maps and News and Weather.

Can anyone confirm whether their's works or doesn't work when wifi and GPS are both disabled?

Re: Location working without wifi?

How is your location going to work if you disable GPS? As far as I know, there is no triangulation based on cell towers like in Windows Mobile to aid actual GPS, so if you disable it, then you cut off your only source of location data.

Oh is this a known? So no AGPS in Android yet?

Android actually has 3 methods of detecting location, AGPS, wifi, and GPS. I must have mistaken wifi detection for AGPS in the past.
