HTC Sense

Searching the forum, I see on 4/23 there was a build with SENSE UI. I do not see Sense on the build that has the working sound.

Is there a way to download and install HTC Sense (for Android) separately?

Thanks!!

You can get sound on the version with SenseUI. All you have to do is download and replace the zImage file. Download the 4/23 version of Android, install it, run it once if that is your preference (or not, it really doesn't matter) and then download the zImage and modules (bundled together) and replaced the existing ones in the andboot directory on your sdcard. All your settings will remain intact and you will get sound.

As for downloading SenseUI separately, I don't believe so. I'm using the 2.1 build with SenseUI built in (not sure of the date) with the replaced zImage and modules.gz per the basic instructions above and it works like a champ.

you down load the newest blazin(or what ever its called) and the SENSE UI bulid and take the rootfs zimage modules from blazin to the sense ui and remove the old ones that that should be all you need

I found zImage and modules.gz here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=5969936), but not sure if it is the right files. The zImage has no extension.

Am I looking in the right spot?

You can get the absolute mostest newestest (sorry, I'm getting redundant...my bad) builds of zImage (yes, no extension) and modules here (http://glemsom.users.anapnea.net/and...htc-msm-linux/). I'm using one from 8/29 or 8/30. You can simply swap them out at will, obviously outside of android. Just keep them in a separate directory. I have 2 or 3 on the sd card just in case (don't know in case of what, buuuut...).

Hope that helps.

I'm getting closer! I d/l the zImage and modules. Copied them to the SD Card. Started Android and ... nothing. Still no Sense. :-(

Are you using the system.sqsh file from the build with Sense...?

(N00B) what's a system.sqsh? my steps were to download the .cab, install on SD card, download the zImage and modules, copy to andboot directory on the SD card, and run Android.

Unfortunately, I still learning by trying (and searching the forums). I am not familiar with a system.sqsh. Did I do something wrong?

Well the system file is basically what determines what system you're running... Ha, sounds simple huh.

Basically the older builds used the sqsh file system - so they were system.sqsh files. The newer builds use the ext2 file system, so the file is system.ext2. You're trying to use a very old build, so I'm assuming that was still using sqsh.

Long story short, those sqsh/ext2 files are all you really need from a Sense build to get Sense working - now that's no guarantee that everything else is going to work... To my knowledge, the Sense builds were abandoned long ago because they were very unstable and generally unpleasant to use.

So I am wasting my time trying to get Sense to work with the new build??

Go figure!
