how long should the installation take on first reboot?

Its been 2.5 + HOURS now starting to get concerned the battery won't hold out.

its still on the text screen linux installation screen at line 13,353 and counting.

is this normal? suggestions? just let it finish? how many lines ARE there?

FRX07 works but I have a few questions.
The "amber charge" light is always on unless I press the power button, the screen then turns off and the light goes green. What causes that?
Also, when automatic brightness is off, the lights behind the "talk, end talk" keys lights up but when auto brightness is on, those lights never turn on.
When auto brightness is on, I dont see the brightness change when i go indoor to outdoor.
Other then that, everything has been working ok, including wep wifi.
Thanks

Post 1... did you read it?
This?
WHAT TO EXPECT - Normal Working:
  • 1st min. or 2: You should see tiny white text on black background scroll by fast, stop & then continue, many times
  • Minutes 2-5: You should see little green droid bots fly by writing the name XDANDROID in green. (sometimes pausing for a few seconds)
  • THEN: You should get a blueish water background pic lockscreen. CONGRATS! It worked & successfully built a data.img file.
  • A minute later: You should hear a tone or several & XDANDROID should be at the top of your screen & 3G & the service level bar at the top should show.
  • WAIT another minute for it to finish the build. Have fun!
  • Free Apps & games from Android Market: You'll need a GMAIL email to use market (to DL tons of free apps including games, etc...). Either use an existing one OR create a new one.
  • After setting up GMAIL WAIT another few minutes for it to auto update (DL & install) Google maps, nav, email, etc.., etc..
  • If it doesn't give you the water background lockscreen within 9 min., skip to step Ib below.
To Shut down (get back to Windows): Hold down the power key & shut down. Then press power key, I'll reboot into Windows.

** for frx07 I had got "No Service" if it happens to you, simply hold power key down, shut down, yes, and reboot. Worked fine on 2nd boot.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2.2; en-us; FROYO X GINGER CWM V3 Build/FROYO X GINGER CWM V3) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

That is way too long. Reboot and see if it will boot android.

teradog. did you miss where I said 2.5 HOURS not 2.5 MINUTES ??? I am not kidding I started at 1400 est its now 1800 est (so 3 hours now) and its at line 14,685 and still going.

thanks demonlord. I will try a reboot it would just suck if it means I should have waited 5 more minutes IE why I wanted to know how many "lines" there are or am I just looping on something (though to it appears to be unique info)

I will try rebooting and see what happens.

now I noticed this time it states failed to find rootfs on sd card.

now one part of the instructions is not 100% clear.

it says place the contents of the zip file in the root of the sd card.

the contents of the zip file. does this mean the content "AS DECOMPRESSED" which is a folder names FX07 with a few files and folders inside.

OR does it means IGNORE this FX07 folder and copy the CONTENTS OF THE FOLDER to the root of the SD card ?

so should it be root/contents of folder

or root/FX07/contents of folder

??

also WHY can't I EDIT a message on this forum? I hit save and it just spins FOREVER doing nothing.

Ok, if you have everything at the ROOT of the card (as in no FRX07 folder... haret, rootfs.img, zImage etc all at the base of the SD - NO folders!) then you don't need to change anything.

If, however, you want to put everything in a folder (say FRX07) you have to place a rel_path=FRX07 statement in your startup.txt (between the quotes, in the cmdline section, like I have below: )

Code:

set ramsize 0x10000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set mtype 2292
set KERNEL zImage
set initrd initrd.gz
set cmdline "lcd.density=240 msmvkeyb_toggle=off gsensor_axis=2,1,3 pm.sleep_mode=1 physkeyboard=rhod400 rel_path=FRX07"
boot

You can place it anywhere in that cmdline section, so long as it's between the quotes and there's at least one space between each command.

PS - 'quick edit' hasn't worked for me on this forum in months. If you "go advanced", it should save your changes no prob.

Thanks ARGHH..

NERYS, make sure you have enough free space on the SD card. I had that error when I was testing on a 256 mb card. Switched to my 8GB when I got my phone back from LCD glass repair and it worked ok.

my first boot took about 10 minutes to settle in.

16gb card 2gb used plenty of space.

the instructions should be updated since as they are written the correct action is to move the FRX07 folder over to the SD card "as it comes" from the zip file.

once I moved the files it worked.

new problem. Calibration is off. I can't really click much of anything (its off by like 2.5 inches)

I can not for the life of me find ANY sort of calibration utility in android ??? what gives you can't align a screen in android?

found a youtube video that indicated the installation should have asked me to calibrate but I never encountered that.

it just "loaded saved calibration" data and went on. I notice its in sys/something/input/input2 etc..

but I can not find a sys folder anywhere in windows and there does NOT appear to be any sort of "file explorer" kind of thing in android ??

is this sys folder virtual? ie only "there" when android is loaded?

how do I calibrate the screen? or how do I delete the saved data to invoke it to ask me again if that will work?

The only way to unlock the screen is to slide the keyboard (thankfully that works :-) but its useless without the touch screen :-)

if this is not viable to fix how do I "reinstall" android. is it as simple as deleting all the files and redumping from the zip file and start over? are there hidden files I need to be concerned about?
