Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

This isn't a complaint, as I think that what all the devs have done to make Android on the Touch Pro 2 work is already awe-inspiring.

I'm just check whether everyone else is seeing a lot of crashes of core Android processes. For example, I'm seeing one right now that says "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." with the button "Force close" beneath it.

It seems to happen a lot to the whole Android UI, where it'll crash, and I'll be kicked back to the last app I was running, and when I go to the home screen, it'll rebuild it piece by piece as if I just booted.

I also see a lot where the Android UI seems semi-crashed. This usually manifests as I am no longer able to perform a certain action. For example, I might be unable to move items anymore by holding down on them (though it'll still vibrate when I hold long enough) or I might be unable to place new items from the app drawer.

Yeah,
After installing the latest zImage file that fixes the "speaker always on" problem, I got alot of crashes.
I went back to the first zImage that enable sound and it works fine. I can live with a little static sound on the speaker.

Same here, crash city.... but we do have sound. :-D I'm going to go back to the cracky zimage and wait it out.

Still lovin to versatility of the TP2.

cracky? they already updated the module and zimage. theres no more hissing or cracky as you put it..lol sound works perfect at least that way now..

If you noticed the post above mine, he went back to the old zimage and the process crashes ceased. I'm ok with the crackle speaker if it means I can use Android. Right now, thigs start crashing left and right so its hard to use.

Try reducing the OC Speed, use less widgets, and if your home screen is huge, use less pages, make sure auto mem manager isn't on aggressive or high or whatever, especially if you have a lot of widgets

Happens without OC for me. Is there actually a way to reduce the number of pages? I'm only using 3, and it'd be cool if I could free up resources by reducing the pages.

i saw your thread, and i was thinking to myself, hmm im not experiencing any of this.

but i guess i spoke too early.

i installed the latest build of blazn, and then the sound fix which replaced the zimage and the modules file

my gmail kept crashing, and a bunch of other random things like the browser. it will open, but close immediately.

i may go back to the pre-sound crackle fix... back to winmo again until theres a permanent fix i guess.

Same here. I wasn't having any major issues at all and was almost about to settle in to Android as my main platform for good, but pretty much every app that wasn't on the build already crashes whenever I try to launch it now. Didn't have this problem with any of the pre-sound versions so I'm guessing that getting sound opened up some new wrinkles they'll have to go back and iron out now.

For the ~24hrs it was working without a hitch though I wasn't even thinking about the Epic anymore.

Re: Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

I'm just running the standard Froyo, no OC and it was happening. I did go back to the pre-crackle fix, same widgets (I only have FB, Calendar and Task Manager widgets going) and I haven't had any issues with it so its definitely related to the sound fix but I'm not complaining, just sharing.

I'm good with the crackly hissing sound.

been having the same issue. Seems pretty coincidental that everyone having issues in this thread is a sprint customer.

I have a theory that it is related to CDMA devices and not GSM. Waiting on people in this thread from Verizon though so we will see.

Wistilt2 said he has been running the sound fix (for external speaker always on) and he has used it a bunch with not 1 crash so far and he is on AT&T. According to the devs, they are not aware and are not looking into this so we will most likely have to wait it out and see if any other fixes resolve this issue. Hopefully it is related to the 3.5mm jack and once they fix that.. well hopefully.

Re: Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

I tried the sound fix and the latest kernels.

Both crash my phone at boot. It will get as far as the lock screen and reboots immediately.

Current build however is working very well though few minor glitches

Interesting. I hadn't even noticed the Sprint connection on these posts. Hopefully it'll catch some of the devs attention as it makes the phone largely unusable.

I know a lot of us Sprint SERO customers have TP2s as that's (currently) our ceiling as far as upgrade paths go. I was going to pay a little more and go with the Epic upgrade path on 10/1 once they lift the SERO restrictions, but when Android + sound was briefly working I really was thinking I could get by just fine with this.

Re: Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

I'd say if you have the opportunity to move to the Evo, or better yet the Epic 4G, I would go for it. I was going to and then my company placed a rule that we are only getting blackberries... and unless that changes the TP2 Android experience is all I have. While the android experience on TP2 seems better than Windows mobile (if you don't use bluetooth, headphones, and have access to charge the phone halfway through the day). I would say though that the difference between android experiences between the Epic 4G and TP2 is like night and day. If you have the 250$ or so for an upgrade.. then go for it. Even if the TP2 gets 3d support, blutooth, and every bell and whistle, it will still pale in comparison to the most recent line of phones.. specifically the Epic 4G (Galaxy S), Evo, droid 2, etc..etc.

Back on topic though, it appears that the Verizon is having issues too, except definitely different than the sprint users.

Coolsilver, have you tried to format your SD card, and drop in the latest reference build from Reefer without an overclock?

Re: Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

I'm on Sprint with the patched 8/27 version and Android is working just as good as it did before the no sound. Mine is a bit slow as I have so much running. I do get a random crash here and there, but just as many as before, maybe one every day or so.

The 8/27 version worked perfect for me for about 24-48hrs before I started getting the non-stop crashing. I'm going to try the newest build from 8/30 either tonight or tomorrow and see how it goes.

Newest build to me seems more stable.

Static is gone.

Still hard crashes on GPS every so often. Otherwise working great.

Re: Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

I haven't noticed more crashes in the latest builds, I still have them occasionally but nothing more than a nuisance.

A bigger problem I was having was with the entire system crashing and rebooting back to WinMo, it was doing that several times a day. That was very annoying. I think the problem was with a widget... I removed all my widgets and haven't had a crash since... knock on wood. :)

Re: Lots of Android processes crashing for anyone else?

The 8/30 build has been FAR more stable for me as well for whatever reason. If only Android had an equivalent to Kinoma (Googe Listen's pretty close) I'd be in it full time now.
