How do you update android without losing settings?

Hey:

I just downloaded the current version of Android from:
http://sites.google.com/site/androidport/downloads

When the next and successive revisions come out, how do I update to them without losing my android settings? I downloaded the .rar version.

I know I should retain my startup.txt. Where are the other settings retained by Android?

Thanks!

realy dont have to do much.. all i do is uninstall android from wm.. then install the new cab.. etc.. pretty easy.. but if u to the format route.. save your startup text.. and data file..< ---- thats the one that stores all your info etc.. But Ive went through 3 builds etc. by doing the first method without issue..

Simple enough-thanks! How about keeping applications and their settings?

Is that accomplished by simply retaining the applications folder as well? Will retaining the applications folder and the data file allow the new build of android to have those applications installed as they were in the previous build?

Oh, there actually seems to be an update utility included in the package. MJGdroidutil.exe seems to do this if I'm not mistaken. Pretty neat!
