Upgrading to Froyo from 2.1

I currently have 2.1 but I want to upgrade and test out Froyo. What's the upgrade process like? Am I able to install over my 2.1 version and it'll save all of my settings? Or is it recommended to uninstall 2.1 and then install Froyo and redo all of my settings?

You must remove ALL droid files and then you can upgrade.

I don't think so, they are different builds.

same issue, since you are or need to remove all files to make sure that the new install works properly, you have to download all of your apps.

You can use astro file explorer, it has a tool to backup your apps, it will put the apk on your storage card. All you have to do from there is add those apks back into your androidapps folder after a new install and they will be installed automatically when you boot android.

Try AppBrain for keeping track of your apps.
