Using Android as primary OS
I just started with the Android port last week and I really haven't experienced too many issues, just a random crash or two but I think I was accessing something that hasn't been comfirmed as stable yet. I was wondering how many people are using this Android build as their primary OS for their TP2? For those who are, have you experienced any major drawbacks aside from the camera not working? Also, since the battery meter doesn't really work, do you have an estimate on how the battery is? I haven't been running it for too long, but the battery draw doesn't seem too significant. Are you using 2.1 or 2.2? I'm on 2.1 and want to test out 2.2 but does the upgrade keep all your settings and marketplace items? Thanks!

Re: Using Android as primary OS
I want to because i find myself wanting to throw my TP2 at the wall if it's not booted into Android, but the battery life limits me from doing that. I run Android when I know I'm near a charger. I think all your setting and apps are stored in the data.img file, someone correct me if I'm wrong?

Re: Using Android as primary OS
is there a way to get all your text messages from ms myphone into this? I would love to see how it acts with over 1K txts. my tp2 in winmo becomes unusable. Does the phone had the SoD?

Re: Using Android as primary OS
yeah, I'm using this as the step off point to move to a samsung epic 4g whenever it comes out.
http://homebrew.binaervarianz.de/ind...o-Android.html I think I'm going to try that since I use PIM already. SMS Backup rules. |
Re: Using Android as primary OS
looks like I'm going to have to try it your way.
The link I sent doesn't work since it relies on PIMBackup exporting to a plain text file, but PMBackup exports to a .pib which is a binary file. |
Re: Using Android as primary OS
ok.. the sprite migrator on the winmo side crashes out. damn,

But now that you bring that up, has anyone on SERO had any problems with this being noticed as an Android OS? I wouldn't think that it would come up since it's still the TP2 ESN#. |

When moving from 2.1 to 2.2 you'll need to delete all the old files and re-download your Market apps. |

Nope no issues at all, I have my TP2 on my legacy plan I've ran Android on and off no issues at all. My brother also had a HTC Touch on his SERO line a little bit back with it flashed to Android and no issues. |
Re: Using Android as primary OS
I really want to and find myself using it more and more. I am on 2.1 with sense and it is alright but i may try 2.2 soon to see if it is a little less buggy/more useable. I dont mind guessing my battery and honestly the drain for me hasn't been that bad...I am slowly switching over...
if it had a working camera i would never switch back. i almost always keep my phone on vibrate anyways, never use bluetooth, and like i said i don't rely on the battery meter. People keep saying this looks promising but honestly i find it rather usable for day to day activities...it's just slower/more buggy than it could be. But it doesnt bother me that much. |
