Froyo?

ok....so Froyo is floating around now...being tested and what not. When can we REALISTICALLY expect the builds to start filtering down.

Been reading up on some reviews...and apparently it is smooth and FAST.

most likely after some phones get it already...all the features of our current phones are not even done yet..including full hardware acceleration which is the main feature of froyo..so it will have no use unless we had hardware acceleration working properly in the first place.

this is just opinion, but i doubt we get it booting (let alone starting to get things like GPS & sound working) before fall

Froyo builds will not come until Froyo's source is released, which will hopefully happen in a few weeks. Google could always release it exclusively for a few devices (Like they did with the Nexus One and 2.1), and then release the source weeks/months later

Actually Froyo uses jit compiler, better performance throughout, regardless of hw3d... hw3d would be nice, though.

Yeah from what I hear its can be up to 500% faster, hopefully they can use the same tricks in porting it over as 2.1

um ya, but it took several months. thus it will probably take a similar amount of time for 2.2

its only ~500% faster graphically in ideal conditions AND there are only speed increased in apps written in native code

well put like a true geek should sound!
+1

though you are mistaken about the gps thing... since its now working withing the legacy drivers, it would work the same in froyo, even gingerbread.... new build will still use the same drivers [so to speak]
