SMS stops working after a couple hours/texts?
This has been a problem since I first started using Android builds....when I run Android sometimes that envelope with the pink clock doesn't disappear after texts I send....and the recipient doesnt get the text until the next Android boot.
This problem arises usually after a couple hours of running android (if I'm lucky...usually happens sooner) or several sms exchanges (send/receive). I'm not sure if it's related to time or number of texts... Does anyone have this issue...it seems completely unrelated to the rom I'm using on my Verizon TP2 because i've used Mighty and Caulkin and Energy (using Caulkin now) and I've gotten this problem everytime. Not sure if I can get calls during periods when SMS doesnt work (well not exactly a period because it just stops working until the next boot...) but chances are they don't since I haven't gotten any calls...3G data works because I can go on the internet and browse like normal. Does this happen to anyone else? Or am I doing something wrong? I do take the SIM card out in order for data to work in teh first place... edit:this has happened on multiple builds...i don't think it's related. |

Happened to me this morning, quite annoying. I'll ask around in some threads, and hopefully get back to you.
Good luck. |
Re: SMS stops working after a couple hours/texts?
So today I installed Handcent SMS and in the options saw that there was a special setting for CDMA users:

By default, the first option was off, and the second was on... I'm currently testing all conditions....well maybe I should stop to google this first....to see if maybe the problem has to do with the way Android sends texts, and that this fixes it? I'm pretty sure though that the problem we're having isn't for texts over 160 chars...so this probably isn't the root of the problem...idk . Just sent a text over 160 to my friend (he's got a Droid) and he said the message got cut off when I enabled "Split message" and disabled "send as mms"...efffff |
Re: SMS stops working after a couple hours/texts?
aaand i tried again with a different "split" setting for a test text with over 160 characters. (there are 4: you can choose to split right at 60 with or without counter or you can choose to split after a word near 160, again with or without counter)
it just didn't send...usually i get the pink clock next to the text and it wont go away..i guess i got the handcent equivalent since it the "sending" icon wont go away.... the thing is before i sent that text i tried replying to another text with a shorter text under 160 and that was the text that wouldnt send intitially....i tried the other 160+ test text just in case i guess with no luck. resetting phone now haha |
Re: SMS stops working after a couple hours/texts?
any luck with this issue? my phone will be running fine for a good solid hour or so then the messages come and it just lags itself into nothingness i have to remove the battery on these super lockups. for the record im using the cab file with sense ui no overclocking or anything funky like that.

Re: SMS stops working after a couple hours/texts?
Honestly, it sounds like its not connecting to the tower to send it. My old RAZR use to do that, if it couldn't complete the send, it would store it. When you reboot the phone back into android, it then connects and realizes it can send a text. Can you make phone calls at that time?
