set up exchange on activesync on pda

user: username@gmail.com
pw: gmail pw
server: m.google.com
domain: if required google, but just leave blank on 6.x
SSL = check
dont select tasks as gmail doesnt support the format

everything else will sync up for you

Have fun! and welcome to dual boot contact sync

BTW: this will not require a usb cable , a windows 7 pc or, any other hupla

I want to warn people who use Microsoft MyPhone ..... this will mess everything up for you. I used this method and I will admit, it worked great until I went back into Windows. MyPhone cant sync items that are synced with an exchange server so make sure you have your stuff backed up with another method as well as MyPhone otherwise you will have to use this Exchange method to sync your Contacts and Calender (Tasks do not work with this method ATM) and MyPhone for what ever else you want to Sync. I believe I have all my stuff back the way I had it now but it took me a few days to get it all situated and just wanted to give everyone a heads up.

This is the best answer, and something I was considering doing.
Problem is, then I would have to really move everything over to Google's sync, in which case I can't use the benefits of my exchange server (direct sync with outlook, integration, etc). I'm actually rather surprised Android doesn't have better exchange sync... iPhone and WebOS do this brilliantly.

Google's cloud services are great, but I still prefer exchange for my work related needs. When Google Apps can sync to outlook, I'll rethink. For now, I'm starting to question if Android is ready for users like me...

Re: Is there any way to import contacts?

I just started using Android on my TP2...(for s**Ts and giggles) have synced my google account already to my phone via activesync. However I'm just getting a portion of my contacts synced to my Android side.

My gmail is synced and so is my gCal. Is there something else I need to do to get ALL my contacts to sync??

also, is there a way to get back to the WinMo side without soft resetting the device?

Google has a special desktop app that syncs your Exchange calendar to your Google calendar. It runs on a timer, shortest interval is 10 min.

You can set it up to be 2 way, Google to Exchange only, or Exchange to Google only. My machine at work is always on, so I just installed it there (yay for being a developer and having full admin to my work box!). Otherwise you'd have to have Outlook on a home machine connected to your work exchange server.

You have been thanked, sir. Great information!

The only thing I would add to this is that if you already have any contacts in your google account, it will delete all of your contacts and put only your google contacts in there. I made this mistake, then I deleted the contacts in google and ran a PIM Restore using PIM Backup. I synced again and everything worked great.

This happened to me and come to find out google wiped all my contacts off my phone when syncing, luckily I backed it all up using pimbackup.
After I restored my 417 contacts I went into the sync settings and changed an option to "leave contact on device if there's a conflict" (in windows mobile).
I then deleted all my contacts on google/google voice & re-sync'd up.
It took a good 10-15mins, but everything is now synced properly and I can now manage my contacts 2 different ways (on android & google!).
after I seen that all of my contacts were properly synced I loaded up android and it auto synced all of my contacts up! anytime I change a contact in android or on google it auto updates whichever one wasn't changed!

Re: Is there any way to import contacts?

OK anyone have clear info on how to move contacts from Winmo to Android WITHOUT activesync ?? or Exchange?? ie directly.

I did it the way I always do it. and it works as I expected it to. but only temporarily ???? what the heck?

I bluetooth transfered all my contacts. the android did not "absorb" them but it saved the vcards to the sd card. I then went into contact on android said import from SD it found the 76 vcards I said import all and it WORKED GREAT.

and then immediately slowly over about 4 minutes (as long as its taking me to type all this) it DELETES all but 22 of them.

all by itself. it says displaying 76 contacts then 64 then 58 then 52 so on and so on till there is only 22 left.

what the fraking heck is that all about? I did not instruct it to delete them.

Its so dumbfounding that I made a video of it doing it (did it 3 times now same result) it finds all 76 it imports all 76 I checked they are valid names numbers all info appears intact and then it just starts WHACKING them all on its own until its back to the original 22.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t93wijuOPHs

I also have NO idea where those 22 came from ??? (gmail??)

its almost like its "syncing" from a master and deleting anything that does not "jive" with the "master copy"

how do I fix this?

Re: Is there any way to import contacts?

Also how do I have contacts on my phone that ARE NOT on google and DO NOT get synced to google.

although I do not have many contacts and I don't really distrust google I have no moral right or authority to go "giving" those numbers to google.

OK I got it to STOP deleting my contacts. open menu inside contacts click on accounts under "manage accounts" click your account there and turn off contacts sync.

now I can import my vcards and it does not delete them.

BOY was that annoying. why would it delete them instead of saying hey new one on the phone sync it the OTHER way "TO" g-mail. I am glad it did not but I am surprised it did not.

with default settings you could never "add" a new contact as it would delete it ??? strange behaviour.
