Does anyone else show that they are on a UMTS network when you go into phone information in the Android?

Yes, that is what mine shows.

I have the zImage.20100314_213816 and modules-2.6.27-00982-g5915499.tar.gz

Based on what I have read, this information is hard coded in and changing them has no affect. This is an issue on the Touch Pro as well due to the fact that USCC and some other CDMA providers use #777 to connect to data via dial-up networking, but Sprint and Verizon do not. Once USCC has an Android unit close to release, there will either be changes with how data works or the android code will gleaned from the final release.

This doesn't mean we should give up and wait, but until someone with USCC that who is a dev steps up this may not be a reality for a while.

the problem with that is that some people that are on uscc have it working just fine. but most of us are out of luck... It blows but this is how it is right now. I am not sure what makes things different for them. makes me wonder what is going on with that.
