Any chance this has the bluetooth tweaks in it?

I'm using the 3-partition version of this build and I really blown away. It is the most stable port to date, especially with some of the newer kernels.

Re: CWM NEOFroyo v0.1 fastest build yet (with tweaks)

It is quite fast. The only downside IMHO is the build is MDPI - look at the notification bar and you can see how much lower res it is..

Also, all the animations are disabled + I think that Zeam is the default launcher. This definitely makes it snappy, which is nice to have out of the box.

Gimmie an HDPI option, I'd be curious to see how it stacks up against a tweaked FRX07 :D.

vzihome 08-14-2011 02:38 PM

I have been using CWM method since it became available, I find it to be running faster than the regular method without ext2 partitions. I have been playing 3d games without the "jitter" and smooth very impressed! Everything is snappier no reboots or FCs, this is actually fx7 based and for it not being high quality icons I would rather have a fast ferrari that has the paint faded or chipped than a new ferrari that I can't get up to what its capable. Pure cosmetics imo

To each their own I guess. I prefer the higher res look, but you're right - if the lower res = better performance, perhaps that is in the end what is best... Our GPU's can't really push 800x480 pixels very well.

FRX07, just tweaked. I've found a few tweaks recently that have really boosted performance, I am actually amazed at what a difference it's made. Two things I adjusted - Android's internal task manager - I read this post (skip past all the app crap, go to the "Configuring androids internal task killer" section). All I adjusted was minfree, and it's been running really well.

Then, on advice from hyc I adjusted apps that start on boot. I really f-ed it up at first... but once I got it working, I noticed a really big improvement from this as well. This way the apps you don't want will only start when you want them to (and not at boot, or when they want to). It's a very manual process, and kind of a PITA... but it only has to be done once. Of course if you install a new app, you'll have to check and make sure that new app isn't starting at boot... So it's not a great solution by any means, but once you get Android setup the way you want, it shouldn't change a ton.

I'm planning on making a how-to boost performance thread soon. Going to try to put one in each device forum, with device-specific helpers. I'm also running Starfox's test kernel which is RHOD-only, and a slight overclock (714mhz). With all of these things combined, I have a very snappy build.

There's of course other things like widgets - they will kill the phone if you have a lot of widgets. I used to love their convenience, then I realized the more I put on the slower the phone got... so now I only have a couple of the first desktop. I also don't use the stock launcher, I've found almost any of the aftermarket launchers are better than the stock 'Launcher2' launcher. I personally have ADW EX, but I've used LauncherPro and it was good, Zeam seems good... I've heard good and bad about GO Launcher EX, never used it myself. I'm sure I've missed some...

So it's not a simple task, but with the right tweaks Android runs quite well... Just gotta know what to avoid and what to do...

I prefer adb, but you can do it thru a terminal app on the phone.

Not ready for prime time here. After moving the proper startup into root, android never boots, just scrolls into infinity. Uscell here. Froyo 6 and 7 worked fine, but too made glitches to really switch to from WM.sigh. Times like this I miss my vogue and a full working android port.

Forgot to mention that startups in folder don't have necessary command lines(forgot to delete folder), please double check your startup with original

I had pulled the startup from my FXR07 installation; dive freezes with both overclock and standard startups.

It has to be original that was with package or look under starfoxes thread for correct cmd line, needs it to boot special kernel

Thanks Viz. NOW to test his puppy!!

UPDATE: Still having problems just booting it. My eyes are not what they used to be, but I THINK it can't find the data.img, and doesn't seem to be creating one on first boot.

It is indeed very fast. However, I have one problem so far: when receiving calls, the audio always comes out from the back speaker. Anybody had similar problems? I used the new 8/15 starfox kernel.

Flip the speakerphone on/off. Should go away.

Are you running Starfox's kernel with this? You probably need to read the directions in that thread if so. If you're running an autobuild kernel, nothing special is required (other than the requirements for CWM... 4 partitions, etc).

Thanks! Yes when I flipped the speakerphone on and off, it seems to be fine (no longer have static sound comes out from the back). But when I make a new call, the problem appears again. Does that mean I have to flip the speakerphone on and off every single time I make a call?

lol, yes every call.

Until the audio routing bugs are fixed, this issue will be present on every single phone call.

Hey Guys, I decided to buy an Optimus S on eBay ($42) and have activated it. I want to thank-you all for convincing me to go this way with all your fine work.

Now I gotta root this phone... have to say it is pretty snappy for what it is out of the box...

Again thanks!

Thoughts on why when i boot into cwm it says "Can't Mount" and a few directories?
My card did mess up and i had to format it, and it hasnt worked since. Is my card busted? I remember having to format it with a special tool in the past, but i have tried the one from sdcard.org and the HP one. Still no love.

demonlordoftheround 08-18-2011 05:36 PM

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 2.2.2; en-us; FROYO X GINGER CWM V3 Build/FROYO X GINGER CWM V3) AppleWebKit/533.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/533.1)

Yeah, sounds like it is time to format using the hp tool and setup the partitions again with minitool partition wizard.

Not sure what the heck i am doing wrong here. Setup the partitions on the card like 4 times. Still says cant mount.

I had this same problem until I realized I wasn't setting my partitions each as primary. Make sure that when you partition out the sd card that you mark the fat 32 partition as well as the 3 ext2 partitions as primary (not logical or anything else).

I was going to use the new stable vanilla but noticed that:

1. Starfox asked to use rootf later than 8/16. The one included in this CWM 1.9 package is older than 8/16.

2. This new kernal creates ext4, is it compatible with CWM? Starfox mentioned that this is not for CWM in the thread.

Did you partition your sd card correctly? Fat32, then 3 ext2 partitions all primary? Label them (sd card, system, data and cache). Maybe start with formatting card to eliminate that as a problem?
