Awesome. So here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to compile a new NBH with the androidupdate.tgz to include the new RIL. I'll post that here and have as many people test it out as possible. If I get enough feedback, I'll push it to git.

Note, we still need to change the button mappings in recovery. Right now, I just changed the one value in the gpiokeys to be home instead of power, and I commented out the navipad.

yeah new recovery is due. Plenty of changes coming actually. but tonight ill just repost a repaired one. The new one may take a few days.

Ok, so just so we understand whats going on this is what we plan to accomplish

1) add oem recovery to initrd. The init script will check for /recovery version of recovery and if not found unpack the oem version in initrd. This way they can install happy from within recovery .. (sexy) ? sound good

2 ) people can chose to upgrade to a full recovery. This means we can deploy this via update.tgz. Ill make an update folder on autobl so we can have some basic updates already.

3) I'm almost done with multi module support but im saving that for possible LK. This way we no longer put kernels in the nbh .. just lk and oem recovery. This will be until we figure out a way not to rewipe after reach flash. If we can figure that out then we can deploy full recovery with the nbh and lk.

aite.. plenty of work to do.

yup, that is sounding awesome. And by the way, I have the full recovery in the NBH right now, and it seems to be OK with that. So I'm not sure you even need to do the OEM recovery unless the new recovery gets significantly larger in the tgz compressed file.

WOOT! With the latest GSM RIL, I don't get data on first boot, but I DO have data after a reboot! This is so exciting :D

Yeah, I'm getting some weird results right now too. Gmail, Google Maps, and Youtube apps installed fine, but Voice Search and Car Home failed. Trying to get the terminal app installed to dmesg.

Edit: Must have been the number of apps that all started downloading at the same time. They installed just fine the second time I tried them. Everything is working for me.

I have a test build if you have a GSM card. You can give this a shot:

I've read the first page a couple of times myself, and it seems slightly cryptic.

Am I to assume, the 3 tgz files need to go on the card, then flash the nbh file using the custom RUU program, then follow the 'on first boot' instructions?

In the FAQ - whats the talk about the HaRET console and ADB? is that needed for a 'standard' user, or is it more for debugging?

ETA: I have done custom roms for winmo before, and am currently running froyo via HaRET - would prefer to use the NAND way... - is it 'worthy' of running flat out like this yet?

It's... only worked on CDMA up to this point. Nate, acl and neopeek are trying to get GSM workin. Neo said he booted, but had to make some changes.

This is just for testing. It's not meant to be run full time by any means.

I just booted the latest, and as much as I want to the lack of PM and other things concern me - so I'll test on it (and it's rockin... updating 8 apps from the market usually brings haret down to its knees... didn't slow down that much!) but I won't be running this full time for the time being ;).

So its faster than running with HaRET (which I expected and is why I want to switch) - but you wouldnt suggest full time. Would you suggest full time on HaRET? I am doing that now...

In answer to my 'how to' question... am I on target?

First of all, please forgive my poor English.
Glad to see new RIL test.
But, unfortunately, still can not use my mobile phone.
I use the new gsmtest.
But for the:
"On first boot, hold Volume Up when prompted to get into recovery."
Phone to restart.
Although only a test. but I feel I am more luck. test failed
When I can not use the SIM card into the system.
This is my feedback.
Hope to help the project.

GSM is being tested, but as I've read on xda-devs it seems to be status quo...

Thanks for giving it a whirl, we'll keep working to get it fixed for you guys!

Uhm... Really not a thread to ask these kinds of questions. I wouldn't recommend running this full time if you depend on your phone for certain things - everyone has different requirements, so if you feel you can run it full time have at it.

I run haret builds almost 100%. Much more so recently than ever before...

But NAND is still missing a lot of things. Progress is flying, and I'll always help test - but I'm not ready to jump ship ;).

With that said nate - new recovery hotness works perfect for me! I didn't have to hit anything, removed recovery from andboot.... went great. Good job guys!

Yes, I apologize that we keep changing the install procedure. Each new breakthrough changes the way we do it, and they have all been for the better. First, ACL created recovery which removed the install-seq.sh script. Then I found that we could pack his recovery into the initrd.gz which is included in the NBH. This removed the recoveryinstall.tgz, so now we are down to 3 files. This is where it should stop though, so I'll have updated install instructions up once I commit the changes to bootenv (which I'm currently waiting for enough feedback and a go ahead from ACL since it's a pretty big change).

Thanks a460162314! Do you know what model you have? It should say under the battery something like rhodium 100 or rhodium 210. I heard from XDA-Developers that my GSM test did not work, so I will try something else tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm with this guy. I'll flash completely fine, but when I first boot it'll get to the point where I'm supposed to hold the "volume up" button, the text for that part will flash for half a second, then my phone will restart. This process will repeat till I take the battery out. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong? I'm on a Rhodium 500, btw.

Sorry, I posted with my phone originally and couldn't edit on there. Forgot that the reboot issue on CDMA phones is due to the SIM card being in the phone. I totally forgot about that issue, so I guess we are still stuck on that.

Yeah, absolutely problem came from SIM Card, while current kernel simply reboot if it boot up with SIM Card inside :D

I'm use RHOD500 too and I can not use SIM Card for now!

@[ACL] I don't see much change with old kernel & new RIL for now, I tried to kill rild service and it auto restart for now but still have no signal now, I also killed zygote service and got back to boot animation screen then simply stuck in Air plain mode LOL may I will have to reboot and try it again, problem with airplain mode is known issue in HARET, btw it may related to service problem.

@nate
Is your test recovery come with new RIL for GSM or for CDMA data only?
Is your test GSM will boot up with SIM Card inside? I'm interesting in load it into my phone to test now :)

The recovery now has its own busybox and everything. It was really designed to be a recovery. But if we are going to embedd it with initrd. Might as well strip down the duplicates.

But i see your point about stripping down functionality. That in itself wont save much more space, just the busybox part definitely will. OK. so agreed, keep full recovery but the tgz needs to be modded to remove busybox... what do you think of that?

Re: NAND Boot Testing - 03-24: FRX05 on NAND (Testing new RIL)

Anyone thinking about use UPX busybox?

I've just tested and its size significant compressed too much:
Code:

┌─(uocnb@hydrogen)-(15:48:07-:-26/03)─-]∙-∙∙·
└─(android)─∙· upx -9 -obusybox-armv6l-upx busybox-armv6l
                      Ultimate Packer for eXecutables
                          Copyright (C) 1996 - 2010
UPX 3.07        Markus Oberhumer, Laszlo Molnar & John Reiser  Sep 08th 2010

        File size        Ratio      Format      Name
  --------------------  ------  -----------  -----------
  1083472 ->    552224  50.97%  linux/armel  busybox-armv6l-upx

Packed 1 file.

Will try to push to phone to see if it can work without problem, then we can use UPX to compress all our binary files to cut more size and get more room for another stuff :)

Try to Press & Hold in the center of screen while you see the text starting printed out

I never ever can boot into recovery mode use Vol Up LOL

Just tried to execute UPX packaged busybox on android and get stuck after command executed, ask Google and get: http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/b...ly/069977.html seen it is a known issue and it still happen with latest version :(

OK, here is the new test NBH with the androidupdate.tgz. To make sure there is no funny business, please do the following:

Make sure recoveryinstall.tgz is removed from /sdcard/andboot
Put androidinstall.tgz and androidupdate.tgz in /sdcard/andboot
Flash the NBH
Do NOT touch the phone and watch to make sure it boots straight into recovery
Once in recovery, install like you normally would

This method is absolutely sexy! If recovery is ever corrupted for some reason, you can restore the original recovery by simply deleting init.recovery from the root :D

Edit: Data does not work on first boot, but appears to work fine after a reboot!

Confirmed, absolutely sexy recovery, it done well on my phone, I like it :D

Re: NAND Boot Testing - 03-24: FRX05 on NAND (Testing new RIL)

I just returned from "Index of / files / xdandroid" to see the new NBH
After that I downloaded.
The NBH is not the same inside with GSMTEST.
When I was ready to download when androidupdate.tgz.
They were removed.
The NBH is the new test?
