Best ROM

So I am waiting for the arrival of my G-Tablet and was curious to know what you personally think is the better ROM available to run right now?

Re: Best ROM

so far i've used roebeet's tnt4.4 and really happy with it, he has a new one using the lastest viewsonic release but its not quite 'there' yet so i'll hold off for a bit, but hten i've always been a give a rom awhile kinda guy
never burned a new one the moment it came out, for my diamond or evo, or now my g-tab

Yea, the TNT seems to be the one most are going with. I feel like that is what I will go with first to try things out. I kind of like to find a ROM that does what I need for it to and hang on to it for awhile. Not huge flasher anymore I guess you could say.

Re: Best ROM

I went with the CM7 nightlys for a bit, then cut over to VEGANTab-ginger with a pershoot OC (1.4ghz) kernel.

Been there for more than two days, so looks like I'm sticking with that one for now.

It's funny how many things Android still doesn't do well, given all it does well. Printing isn't even really considered, for example. And web proxy settings? fogetaboutit. Tablets don't have earphone speakers, but sound is still routed there (on say skype or sipdriod, for example) unless you put it on "speakerphone"

Still, fun to tweak.

Even if you don't use VEGANtab, check out the VTL Launcher, it's VERY nice and should work with other (stock) roms.

Finally a Gtab section. Way 2 go PPCgeeks.

I have tried Gojimi's Vegan Tab Roms / Roebeets TnT lite Roms but that one im sticking with for now is Calkulin's TnT Rom, IMHO its been the fastest and very smooth for daily use. Also using Gojimi's VTL launcher.

As I did with Vegan Tab, I am also working on the TnT stat icons.

If it gains momentum here.... will post the updates for the stat icons for (tnt) as seen above.

Re: Best ROM

nice work, improved icons over the blah viewsonic ones would be cool

NinjaMom 04-26-2011 03:24 PM

I'm running Caulkin's gtab 1.1

Very stable and fast.

Re: Best ROM

VEGAn-Tab 5.1.1 here... I decided on this one because of hardware video acceleration.

I'm also using VTL Launcher.

To be honest, I loaded the newest Viewsonic ROM and have been quite pleased. It is stable and works quite well. Once I can load gApps, I'll be set.

If you like stock, take a look at what roebeet is doing over on slatedriod.com - He basically cleans up stocks, adds market, gapps, root, and a few other tweeks... he's got roms for the original (1.1) and new (1.2) bootloaders.

Re: Best ROM

So, I'm not sure how many of you follow the DRAHMA over the 1.1 vs 1.2 bootloader, but a couple of things happened over the weekend and there seems to be significant movement now towards 1.2. Not much of it (yet) over at xda, but on slatedroid there is, with the addition of pershoot's OC kernel to the 1.2 bootloader tree, much excitement.

So, there could be a much more fully accelerated Gingerbread rom out, there is a much better OC'ed Froyo rom with full hardware video accel. available with OC kernel, and there is renewed hope of a Honeycomb rom.

Will keep y'all posted... I'm still on VeganGinger, although I'm really hoping it gets an update soon, the CM7 nightlies are way ahead of the code base gojimmy used...

Yeah keep us updated please because I'm all about updates :)

Re: Best ROM

Actually, over on slatedroid robeert has an alpha version of a full Honeycomb port that looks like it's going to be quite good - might need a few weeks more for the edges to get smoothed down, but its coming from the Adam HC release rom, which is fairly close hardware.

1.2 branch is the way to go. there's more active development. Brilliant corners is stable enough to be used as a daily driver. Most of the recent discussion is posted on slate droid.

I'm not a believer yet :) But it is getting closer. The CM7 branch is still under heavy development as well, of course.

Well guys... It looks like I might be visiting you more often now.
LOL... Now just waiting for Laos to contact me and get my shipping info.
I'll definitely be rooting this. I'm leaning toward the vegan tab rom.

vegan tab is nice, but CM7 is the way to go now, you can get netrlix plus CM7 updates are going really well on hardware acceleration.

(idk how I ended up with this crazy font)

Alright Orange, I'll expect a full how-to for installing CM7, ala the iPhone write-ups you've done, by the time my gTab arrives :D I ain't visiting no other crappy sites.

CM7 has hardware acceleration now? and video playback?

I personally went with Honeycomb Illuminate rom cause it has hardware acceleration, dual core optimized, flash support and opengl support...too bad no mkv via hardware playback yet :(..

Can cm7 now play videos via hardware decode?

I'm pretty sure the illuminate doesn't have flash support yet unless I missed something, if the FFC worked I'd be on-board big time.

Yeah some of the CM7 roms have hardware acceleration, I need to check which one(s).

Parasite, I can throw something up at some point. It's a little more complicated because you need to learn NVFlash and switching bootloader versions, etc...

Re: Best ROM

I've been using "Brilliant Corners" for the past couple of days and really like it. My Gtab came with the 1.2 branch so my 1st choice of "Vegantab" wouldn't work. I initially tried "Illuminate" but it kept hanging at the Illuminate screen. Might have been because I didn't have an sd card plugged in. Might try it again... but no complaints with "Brilliant Corners"

Mine showed up tonight, and I've already got CWM installed, repartitioned and reset permissions. Tomorrow I install a ROM. I'm on bootloader 1.1 and I'm leaning toward CM7 and Pershoot since Netflix is important. I think I have a handle on the process, but if you've got any tips or things to look out for, let me know. I've not used NVFLASH up to this point, and unless I must use it, I'm planning on avoiding it. It looks to be Windows only, and I'd rather stab my eyes out with toothpicks than boot into Windows, so...

There is a linux version of nvflash as well...

Re: Best ROM

I've got CM7 installed, it was easy enough to do. I'm trying to get Pershoot installed and I'm running into an issue. When I plug in the USB cable from the Gtab to my computer, it doesn't mount the internal card. The stock rom would pop up a box asking if I wanted to mount the card, but CM7 doesn't seem to. How do I get access to copy files onto the device's internal memory in CM7?

Nevermind, I had to copy the file vold.fstab.zip to a USB drive, mount that on my GTab, then copy the file over to the internal memory. I then installed it through CWM and I'm good to go. I'll attach that file if anyone else ends up needing it.
