Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

okay so there has been a breakthrough in the android front that we have all been waiting for
for android
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=AE8XSKQF
users will need the 2.10.50.28_2 radio to test
any other radio will not work
http://us.vbnfiles.com/xda/HTC%20HD2...Leo%29/Radios/
get the radio there
secondly
wp7 may look realistic now
no "real" porting news but the Mondrian rom is yielding some interesting results and open development is under way.

So is this mega upload link a video of android working on an HD2? I don't get it...all it says is "HD2 Test 720p"

linux test
linux finally runs and that means android isn't really all that far behind...matter of days, weeks, or even months
its not a video
it plays a video on the hd2 in 720p from the linux console meaning that the device can accept linux commands which means android booting isn't far behind
even more amazing is the ability to run 720p which I really couldn't in windows mobile...so as far as development goes, the breakthrough has been found. I expect a very fast android build to be released!

This is amazing news indeed...I take it you will keep the HD2 forums updated on the latest builds and such...

Can't wait for the evo to drop...I work at Radioshack...and I'll have immediate access to one on or before launch day.

Let me know if you want me to rip everything off the EVO's memory the second I get it all I have to do is hook it up to a laptop in the store and just tell me what software to use to properly copy everything from the phones memory and storage card and I'll upload or e-mail it to you. And you would probably know better than I would who to send it to to get ripped apart. I definitely have access to the EVO phones on or before launch so let me know.

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

absolutely! dcordes may be working on an android build to be released...for wp7 lotta discussion concerning hspl and hardware compatibility for the hd2...shockingly some programs do not give error so it means there may not be as many compatibility issues as once thought in the oem dept save from silverlight
we need tom though

Linux vid won't work on my HD2, read that formatting card and trying is doing the trick in a few cases but don't feel like doing it right now so i guess i'll try later...

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

android is very young...it would rock to see a release in a few weeks...heck a few days would be unbelievable...though I want to try that sense on desire
who needs an evo now =3

Android's already earned its tried and true status.
I want to at least get a feel for how fail wp7 is, before I fully switch to android :p

ok im a TOTAL 1D10T when it comes to this stuff... does this mean that I'll be able to competely redo my phone with Android OS from WM?

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

kinda, but my guess is it'll take long enough for you to consider another phone until something that's usable daily appears

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

update (not on android but wp7)
TIME TO DONATE!
https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...=NXZVQP7WGXYP2
da_g needs every penny he can get for wp7 and he thinks he can crack it if he has jtag trace 32 and a touch hd2
I'll ask the mods if I can make a donation thread for wp7 progress

as for android
read the quoted

I am thinking the more important project here is wp7 on an arm7 device which seems reasonable now that da_g has made quite a few strides in a few days...but donations are necessary

So any user with an hd2 donate
edit
mods can I open a new thread soliciting donation for hd2 on wp7 project and link to the xda thread?

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

Just wondering, but when you say you might be able to run Android does that mean fully? Like usually what I've noticed when they get a device running a different OS is that things like Wifi, GPS, telephone signal, camera, etc. all that isn't available. Usually THAT part is what takes a long time right?

Noir 05-20-2010 06:12 PM

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

ya and the messed up thing is that i just gave sprint the 86 a month ago..... shoulda waited

jonhern 05-22-2010 10:07 AM

HD2 with WM7

So I am thinking about getting the HD2 but read that it will not get WM7. Just wondering if it will be possible to get a custom rom that is wm7 or will the new OS be incompatible? Should I just wait till the end of the year? I am with sprint right now and I am also thinking about the EVO 4G, but don't like the $10 extra each month for 4G when we dont have it hear in RI and they will not give me a time frame when we will. Plus not too sure about android. So just wondering what advice I can get here, don't want to spend a bunch on a phone that I can't upgrade since I will prefer to do the no contract plans that T-mobile has. Like if anyone knows if something like the HD2 will come out with WM7, I want something with a big screen.
Thanks for any help.

Noir 05-22-2010 11:25 AM

Re: HD2 with WM7

there is a topic right below the one you posted that indicates the development of wp7 so far on the hd2
it may work, it may not work
if you're with sprint, I'd wait for the evo...its up to you on what device you prefer. If you like windows mobile, get the hd2, if you like android get the evo. Don't expect development for future platforms to breakthrough tomorrow because you will be sorely mistaken

Noir 05-22-2010 11:28 AM

Re: Android and WP7 development (what a weekend!)

well it depends n you
I just wasn't amazingly impressed with the evo 4g...that's just me but I wasn't impressed and I didn't see the huge deal

SAME here...having already bought and regretted buying a Nexus One. The EVO seemed sluggish for a snapdraggon phone quite frankly.

I mean it's a great phone but I still see no real reason to switch from a phone like my HD2, to the latest and greatest android phone.

I'm planning on waiting until the next style of Android comes out, the Android Sense experience is great...but again, nothing hugely spectacular over my HD2 other than eye candy.

And with the THOUSANDS extra that i'd have to pay over the next two years in Absurd fees...getting the EVO feels more like I'm going backwards in time with cell phone technology.

i'll be waiting for either upgrade on my HD2.... the phone itself is phenominal and i love everything about it... except for memory consumption and freezing up.

In my idea world it would be great to be able to switch between stock, Froyo and WP7.

Any more exciting news of Linux/Android on the HD2? I'm tempted to grab one when a certain sale at a certain shack hits the 19th
