SPB Mobile Shell 5.0

I heard of a (private) beta trial that is out for Mobile Shell 5.0. I finagled an apk out of a friend that was "accepted" in the private beta (I must not have been-I applied), and tried it out. "Activation Failed. Check Your Internet Connection. Try Again?"

Weird. My internet is working fine at the current time (4G is not, but I don't think that's the problem - neither of the other 2 who tried it have 4G). I'm pretty sure it's not the apk, or the phone (a friend used the link to try it on his Nexus One, and the friend I got it from has an EVO running CM7 / Warm Z).

I even thought it might be the ROM, flashed back to stock, had sprint update my internet profile. No changes, still same activation error....

Any idea?

In the same boat as you, i have never gotten mine to activate. All I have gotten was a wallpaper change, then it shoots back to sense. Frustrating as I wanted to give this a run, but to no avail.

Because it's PRIVATE, it probably checks against your SPB beta account to confirm you're allowed to run it. ;)

your correct sir, i test for spb and this app and the guy that gave his out can be in trouble for doing so. we all agree with spb testing rules and that one is first on the list if he is a beta tester or he may just have a warez apk. the app is sweet though and you guys will enjoy it.

Generally, I would agree that that must be the reason, however I never entered my e-mail address. Not to mention that the same apk was used by two different people, and it worked fine.

As for the Private Beta? Give me a break. Sure, it will expire, and have bugs (like most betas), but "get in trouble?" -- please. You've been watching CSI too much. The only difference between a private and a public beta is that they want to limit the feedback to specific groups.

Yours sounds like it is getting farther than mine -- I never got a wallpaper change. Check your default programs, it might be defaulting to Sense and locking you out.

Well I purchased the final version of it yesterday.

Fyi...I LOVED Spb Shell on all my Windows PPC's and was excited to get it for Android. I spent the $ to get it and am soooooooo disappointed!! Sense is waaaaaaaay better imo. I do not need an entire screen dedicated to weather, or flickr photos, or travel, or time, or communications. I already have a weather app! The clock choices for the time page are so lame, all ugly analog clocks!! Even more frustrating is the fact that there are hardly any customization settings like there were in the Windows version.

Just my 2 cents...anyone who is satisfied with Sense, will be really disappointed with Spb. Especially if you were previously an Spb fan.

I feel the same way and us to exclusively use spb ms on my wm phone. Luckily I managed to uninstall with 1 minute to spare. If it was $5 or less maybe I would have slacked a little but $15 just too much.

Yeah I wasn't so lucky. When I installed it and started playing with it, I convinced myself that I must be overlooking some extraordinary features/settings and kept playing with it trying to find them...lol...unfortunately, my 15 minute return/uninstall window closed before I figured out that there really were no more features/settings!!

So sad :(

Ditto. I like it, don't get me wrong, I just think for a program that was announced in Feb 10, and released in March of 11 the number of widgets and options (compared to MS 3.5 on WM) is pitifully weak. I mean I liked the flickr page until I realized that when I login to flickr there is no way to show MY pictures there. The weather page is nice, but it would be nice if we could integrate other widgets (weatherbug).

The lack of a suitable profile management widget (like Phone Suite for WM) was really depressing. That was the real reason that I loved MS in the first place (not EVER having to worry if your phone was going to ring in a meeting, or if your bluetooth was not on, pg ringtones at work, etc). I downloaded Phone Weaver, and it seems to work -- I was just hoping to have a system with a little familiarity -- no dice.

and $15? Crazy expensive. I wouldn't bitch at all if it were $5.
