Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
Android people are quite defensive. When an iPhone user brags about his/her phone/app all we say - "we have this too". I'm tired of this me-too answer. And saying "android market is open" mostly means "there's more crapware in andmarket".
So, what are truly unique/superior features of the android? Let me start: 1. google voice app What else can be added? |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
The ability to hold any android phone the "wrong way" and still have perfect signal.

I just like how easy it is to sync everything with Google. Plus the community is nice. That said, I might try an iPhone if it ever does come to Verizon 1/11. It's not that I don't like Android, I do, but I would like to see if I would even like an iPhone. |

Play most video codecs(rockplayer) Live wallpapers No need for jailbreaking for basic features Not locked into itunes More than one carrier in US Apps from non-market sources Google Nav Completely customizable home screens |

- Live wallpapers are nice, but decrease battery life and slow down the phone - Have you not rooted android? :) - Most people wish android had desktop client. Look at doubleTwist - me-too. - Most people use one carrier. If Sprint had iPhone I would not look at android probably. - Screen customization unfortunately ends up simulating iPhone layout... |

1. So? It is still better then what the iPhone can do. Also, battery life was not presented as a criteria by you so this is valid even if you don't think so. 2. He said for basic functions. 3. I like drag and drop and do not need to be linked to a specific program. Again, this is a preference thing for you but was not presented as a criteria. 4. And? iPhone is only linked to ATT so the point is valid. 5. Completely disagree with this. There are literally tons of themes that look nothing like the iPhone. |

I'm talking about choice. - Hardware is quite similar now, except for dreadful battery life on Epic/Evo. - iPhone UI is superior to Android (in learning curve at least). - Advanced users will always be unhappy with default functionality and will JB/root devices. So lets imagine all carriers had iPhone, why would anybody get Android if they had a choice? |
Some people just don't like the sterile iPhone OS. Also, I'm not quite sure how customizing the android desktop with Widgets and the sort is imitating the iPhone. The devices are so similar in features and capabilities that it really comes down to user preference. I prefer android. Had an iPhone and got bored with it.
Also, thanks blazingwolf. Not at a comp now, will push the button later. EVO on Tapatalk |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
I wouldn't exactly say having an open market means more crap...since in the end run Apple actually lets the crap through..what they do block are "feature apps"..they have softened a little bit lately but have a way to go.

I mean why not jsut give everyone in school A's so we can skip all these learning curves... Quote:

It is because we have choice that we hold the right to choose whats best for us There really is little that sets an iphone over Android hence you hear peopel saying "We have that too"...iPhone is just a hyped brand...simple as that..similar to Verizon Droid series...its not better then any other Anroid phones but many people believe that its better just cause it has a more well known name :/ |
I for one would definately not ever own an iphone no matter what carrier has it. I respect the iphone for completely changing the smartphone game but like the previous poster said.. its a hype phone...

Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
android is better because it open source
|
IPhone can't stand on its own! And you need the WiFis for videochat. And my battery is replaceable. Memory too.
No one mentioned flash surprisingly. I always tell a friend to go on YouTube and they hit the app. Then I show them the actual site. Jealously then hits. Sent from my fast as hell phone that you can only wish you had |
And the iPhone is a great multimedia device, not really a great phone

Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
Android is better, especially the Evo, because to execute a soft reset, jam the volume down key in and press the on/off button on the right. Dang thing reset 5 times last night before it was noted the volume down key was jammed in. Excellent feature!

Android is open source, hackable, customizable, powerful, and generally kicks ass in every arena.
Plus you don't look like a hipster tool using an Android phone. |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
iPhone users prefer to smell like women while Android users prefer to smell like men. Got to say that I do prefer to smell like a man since I am one. ;)

Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
I had the hardest time programming my number into a friend's Iphone. Yet every other phone I pick up is so simple....

Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
My recent conversation with my friend who thinks his iPhone is the best phone in the world (and actually works for Apple)
My questions- Is your iPhone screen this large? Do you have an 8mp camera? Do you have HDMI out? Do you have a 1ghz cpu? Can you overclock your cpu to 1.2ghz? Do you have 1gig of memory? Do you have a replaceable battery? Do you have Dual flash for your camera and camcorder? Do you have removable media cards? Do you have 5 point multi-touch? Do you get 60fps? Can you play flash? Do you have live wallpaper? Do you have customizable home screens? Do you have widgets? Can you download music for free? Do you have Google Turn-by-Turn Nav with voice prompts? Can you send emails, sms, etc with nothing more than your voice? Can you download apps from other sources? Can you video chat while in the passenger seat of someones car away from wifi? Do you have the same 9mb download speed I have on 4g? Do you have a wireless access point? Do you have an unlimited plan for $69? Can you do anything without having to have iTunes installed? Can you root your phone without the worry of Apple bricking it? His answer to everything was "No" I then asked him- Name one thing that your iPhone can do that my EVO can't do or can't do better? His answer was "I don't know" (remember, this is an Apple employee) I then asked him- Why do you have an iPhone then? No answer.... Just a dumb blank stare as he started to realize that maybe he really didn't have the greatest phone in the world. I told him "It's alright... when you go back to work Monday and drink some more of that cool-aid... You will once again have the Greatest Phone in the World!" #-o |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
Hilarious!
As far as adding to the list of what Android has/does better than the iPhone, I must say the notification system. I think its superior to a popup interrupting whatever screen you are on, I like the way they stay tucked away in the taskbar until you want to address each individual notification at which point you can do very quickly. |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
Riptide..things aside I think your friend is just doesnt know much...
Do you have an 8mp camera? (it doesnt but the 5mp camera on it is better) Do you have a 1ghz cpu? (yes it does but I hear its under-clocked to save battery) Do you have 1gig of memory? (both phones have 512mb ram..if you meant ROM they got more) Do you have a replaceable battery? (its not that you cant replace it.you just void warranty) Do you have Dual flash for your camera and camcorder? (no but their camera is better) Do you have 5 point multi-touch? (it actually does..if it doesnt then its software locked) Do you get 60fps? (in what?) Can you play flash? (there was a port of flash for iphone) Can you download music for free? (if you wanted to you can >.>) Do you have Google Turn-by-Turn Nav with voice prompts? (This is coming) Can you download apps from other sources? (if you jailbreak you can) Do you have the same 9mb download speed I have on 4g? (if they take it to t-mobile they can) Do you have an unlimited plan for $69? (on t-mobile? but neither does sprint...) I can say that off the top of my head... PS iphones are EVIL...BURN... |

example: Why yes this new sports car has a V10 motor just like a Doge Viper. But what we have done is disabled 6 of the 10 cylinders so that you will get better gas mileage, and it keeps you safe so you can't get hurt with the true speed that this sports car potentially can have, so that means it's better and potentially faster than the Viper because everyone knows that 4 cylinders is better than 10. #-o Oh yea, Just keep in mind that if you try to enable any of the other cylinders... we will come to your house and crush your new car... for your protection, of course  *********************************************** Yea Thanks! But I will pass on that one |

My response was how come Eddie Irvine and Johnny Herbert (Jaguar, not Ford but I know the same shit) were using carbon ceramic brembos, 7 speed tranny and a V10 and this f***ing car you are showing me has nothing. Now back to phones.....I can hold my phone upside down and make calls. |

This has got to be the worst devils advocate role playing I have seen. "The iphone can do some of these things IF you want to void your warranty or jailbreak it (which I think also voids warranty), no flash but camera is better". Sorry, but a "better camera" isn't better if it doesn't have a flash. How good is it in the dark? And Sprint is practically unlimited for $69.99 a month. So you can't make unlimited calls to landline... Big deal. iphone charges $30 a month ON TOP of whatever you are paying for a plan.... iphone is weak compared to Droid. |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
Well, everyone knows that "The most interesting man in the world "owns an EVO with Android. That alone, should be good enough, but while being redundant .
Flash Removable battery. did I say Flash? Google Sky(free) Google Voice Google Nav Flash Open Source Available on MANY carriers Superior Reception and Better 3g and 4g speeds in many cases Choice of different models with Android OS Plan Pricing (choices) Camera with a different kind of flash oh..... and ....Flash Player I phone advantages: Screen durability |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
Your not being redundant at all :-\"
but I think you forgot to mention the flash :violent1: LOL |
Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
As stated iPhone if Jailbroken can now do flash with a port from Android (so you ment to say native flash)...and you can take an iphone to t-mobile as well for different price points...

To me that's the point. Android can do more then the iPhone can out of the box with no rooting or jailbreaking. |

Re: Unique android apps/features (vs iphone)
I don't have an iPhone 4, nor do I really care to have one (I heart EVO), but the iPhone has come a lonnnggg way since that piece of crap it was when it launched. At this point, I think it's hard to hate on either iOS (reception issue is funny, but I bet it doesn't factor into normal use for most) or Android. WP7 still has to earn respect though.
