Quick question before I root

I am coming from a touch pro, where I would change flash a rom every so often. Before I did a flash I would backup all contacts/sms/mms with a program, I think it was called ppcbackup. Is there something similar I can use on the Evo to backup messages prior to rooting and then have them be restored post root?

Thanks.

mybackup pro (paid app/i've never used it)

some ppl root via unrevoked so they dont lose any info... then they d'l titanium backup for rooted users. backup their stuff. then fully root and restore using titanium backup.

Good thing about Android is your contacts are tied to your google account, so they automatically get synced when you flash another ROM or do a hard reset. If you don't utilize storing your contacts on your google account, you can simply export them to your microSD card via the contacts (people) app. as for sms and mms, there are free apps in the market, one called "sms backup" (it won't back up MMS) that will do just that. However, be sure to get the right backup program, because one of them syncs your sms messages to your gmail account and the other backs up as a file on your microSD card. You'll want the one that stores the backup on your card. Also there is an mms backup app on the market as well.

I have yet to see anything that restores as comprehensively as SPB Backup on the WM OS, to where not a single thing or setting had to be reconfigured
