I too use stock and prefer that notification on the task bar so it doesn't interrupt whatever it is I'm doing. Does hancent or chomp do this also or only pop up is my option.

You can enable/disable the quick reply popup or taskbar notifications if you want in both apps. You can also enable the popup on the lockscreen only which is what I'm doing. This way I can choose to reply to messages quickly without having to unlock and open the message. When the device is unlocked messages only show up in the taskbar without interruptions.


Btw I switched to chomp sms because of a few issues with handcent. Pretty similar other than the free version having ads.

I use stock as well... I only use Handcent for wake screen on SMS (My preference)...

The one thing that sucks about stock is that it resizes your picture down to thumbnail size. It's great that it only takes a second to send to someone, but it could still stand to be a bit bigger so it doesn't lose so much quality.

Redundant to have messages enter both stock and third party apps. So, I stick with stock. It works wonderfully. Although, I wish notifications worked while in-call.

I have handcent on my Evo and it's works great. I love the chat bubbles and the customizable theme and colors..

I was using Handcent because I didn't like how the stock notification had my texts posted on the lock screen, but Handcent broke the vibrate on text for me. Even after I uninstalled it, my phone still wouldn't vibrate on texts. Had to hard reset. Has that happened to anyone?

SMS Popup is pretty cool, it works with the stock SMS with WAY more options.
