[Review] SugarSync Android/Desktop Sharing App

I just saw a news article about SugarSync on one of the 50+ sites that I monitor RSS feeds from and I was intrigued. I went to the site and it didn't take me long to figure out that they had a free account with 2 GB of online storage. I quickly signed up from my PC while I searched for SugarSync in the Android Market on my Moment. By the time I was done with the simple signup and new account verification on my PC I also had the app installed on my Moment.

Setup was quick and easy and within a few minutes I had a few folders "shared," via an upload to their servers, from my desktop:

1. Folder full of pictures of my family.
2. Folder with the latest version of my personal web site.
3. Folder with all the files to flash a Moment with CL14, the new modem and a custom kernel.

The upload went quickly and I named my work PC "Office." I then logged into SugarSync on my Moment and was immediately prompted to learn their app by playing a quick "game" and get another 250 MB in storage. The game consisted of three file sharing/uploading exercises and took less than two minutes total, for which I was immediately given my additional 250 MB.

I then browsed systems from my Moment and saw "Office," the name of my work PC. I clicked it and low and behold there were the three folders that I had started uploading from my PC. The pictures were full size (3456 x 2592) at almost 3 MB each and they opened without issue. I was also given the opportunity to share the picture by emailing it directyl from the app. The other folders contained their respective goodness and had the same sharing capabilities.

All in all I was very impressed with SugarSync and wanted to share it with anyone who did not already know about it. With the free version, and a quick game, you get the following:
  • SugarSync will allow you to backup and sync up to two computers
  • Stores the current version of each document, plus 2 past versions
  • Can backup and sync 2.25 GB in total
  • Free and unlimited access from your Android phone to files from up to two computers
I would heavily recommend that everyone who does not have it, give it a try. It is simple, fast and free, so what more can you ask for?

Also, they offer referral credit for existing members, which ends up being additional storage space. If you want to signup for a free account and also help a fellow member get some referral credit (500 MB Bonus), then please click here to hook up Scoob. If you want to signup for a free account and could care less about hooking a brother up, that's ok, too. The link to their main site, with no referral credit for me, is here.

I found this old thread and wanted to let you guys and update.

I just signed up because Sugarsync released an update for their Android App.

I've been using Dropbox but SugarSync looks very promising since Dropbox's app seems very limited still.

Best of all, Sugarsync is much more generous with their free space now: 5gig signing bonus and 500mb referral bonus that is unlimited until May 31st:toothy7:

Anyway, feel free to give the OP more space with his referral or use my referral link... either way, give it try at least
