Is it that bad for the battery to keep activesync running?

My wife and I use Google Apps for our email/calendaring. This way we can share calendars, keep up with each other's schedules, etc. I've been using nuevasync and ActiveSync to sync my calendar and it works good so I'm happy with it. I'd like to just leave ActiveSync on and set it up to do a sync every day. Is it that much of a battery hog to keep ActiveSync running like this? It wouldn't be doing polling through the data connection frequently. Just once a day. So the only overhead is the app, right?
