I've completed ruled out ActiveSync at this point, and it's most likely rom (Doubtful) or hardware (Most Sensible at this point).

What I need to do is to rule the ROM part out, which I'm pretty sure it's not, but would be nice if I could install it via an SDCard just to rule that part out...At this point I'm going to see if I can get a replacement device.

Reaing your post was like looking in a mirror. I've also decided that the problem is that the pins on the phone have worn or bent and are no longer connecting properly to the cable.

After tearing my hair out for a couple weeks and blaming (coincidentaly) OMJ's rom I discovered that one of the six or so mini-usb cables that I have will work..most of the time.

I'd suggest that you try a couple more if you have them handy.

Even if the port is messed up fo good, you can flash roms using an sd card (not sdhc! - I use a 1GB). Just put the nbh file in the root directory of a fat32 formatted card and name it VOGUIMG.nbh

Then enter bootloader (Camera+Power+poking+soft reset) to get the tri-colored screen and follow the directions to flash the new rom.

Good luck!
